The Land of the Two Kings is ruled, as suggested, by two kings who married to rule their lands as one. Their land is split into duchy’s and is known as a place of honorable and god fearing men.

Is this as literal as it reads? Like "gay marriage" married?
It doesn't bother me or anything. Just struck me as odd, since every gamer I've ever known has looked for SOMETHING to ridicule about the setting they're gaming in.

If so, it might've been a bad idea to call one area:

The Flaming North was once known as Arag Novi and was, during the last 100 year winter, the home of the gnomes. When summer approached, however, the Orcs of Ro’Shok’Frn drove them from their lands and wage war on what is now known as the flaming north, due to it’s intense weather and war.

Yes, they are gay kings! One of James' finest ideas. Everybody in the group liked that idea a lot. The Flaming North is named because of the weather.

Like I said, I've got no problem with it. I just found it odd, all things considered.
Welcome to the 21st century, guys! : ) Nice to see someone not back down on his ideas to giove into societal pressures.

As Proudhoof said, they're unrelated. The Flaming North is called that because I wanted to invert the 'Grim Up North' trope (following Dragon Age) and have the Northern part of the continent the hotter area.

In fact, due to the fact that a dead sun god orbits the planet very slowly, the seasons change every 50 years based around his location. Perhaps 'Burning North' might have been a better pick for somewhere nearby but I'm into the setting enough to pass it.

Just so long as you guys didn't take my comments/questions the wrong way. As someone with a gaming group aging between 21 and 40, I can definitely see how some guys would say, "If they're gay, aren't they [i]queens[/inq]?" and then giggle about the gay kings and how they should rule the Flaming North.
'Cause, you know... that's top notch humor there! ; )

It's fine, we ended up spending 10 minutes making insinuations about one of our characters and a cargo hold of pigs.

back on topic, the 'classic' intro adventures have a great feel, but can also have some very player-unfriendly traps and such in them. I don't know how many have been removed from 3rd and 4th edition remakes.

A lot of the classic early modules were designed with 'tournament play' in mind, which is a nice way of saying "meatgrinders-bring lots of character sheets." They had a lot of save-or-die death traps, 'grudge monsters' (Really, does the Rust Monster exist for any other reason than stripping the fighters of their gear?) and similar annoyances.

Played straight, without updating, playing the 'classic' adventures would be a lot like playing many NES games today. By modern standards they're crude and ridiculously hard to the point of not being fun despite fond memories. Making this kind of thing a player's first experience with an RPG could turn them off to the whole experience for life.

I played through part of the 'Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil' for 3.0 and it was pretty good. I believe it was written such that different segments could be done as separate 'adventures' with other content between them. So level 1-2 might be exploring an old keep with a map to the actual temple as part of the loot, but getting to the temple might not be possible until he characters are higher level...

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

Funny you should mention that, our Rogue got a face full of Arrows in the first adventure! I think the DM does a good job of balancing things out, so that it is fun to play mind.

That's the important bit, and all the players had lots of fun (even my fiancee!)

I would like to play through a whole campaign book. I like the idea you mentioned that certain areas can't be explored till you are are of a certain level. It would be nice to revisit places and further expand that area.
