A brass cartridge weapon isn't going to need a percussion cap, it's included in the cartridge. A percussion cap weapon is barely a step up from a flintlock.

In the case of DoW2, I think this is an issue where Relic took the view that the planet had a feudal-style government, and this made it a Feudal World (incorrectly).

I think the idea of early-blackpowder and pre-Industrial production is a hallmark of a Feudal World. I get the feeling they're supposed to be medieval/early-Renaissance in technology and feel.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

^ But without percussion caps. modern breechloading and repeating firearms would be impossible.

In order to "pack" a percussion caps into a cartridge. you need THIS technology.

brass cartridges for flintlock weapons do exists. but it's not very successful.

now military composition. Which type of infantry does it common in the "hi-end" feudal world?
- Pike formations
- Sword and Shield formations
- Arquebus formations
- Musketeers
- Crossbowmen
- Grenadier
- Greatsword wielding infantry (Landsknecht or Samurai)
- Bladers (foot troops wielding two blades .. aka. each hands hold one blade)

a mixture of those.

look up reneissance era armies which included Gunpowder weapons.

there would be foot regiments comprising 50% Pikemen and 50% musket or Arquibus armed men.

the gunners would advance to the front, fire their weapons, and then retreat behind the pikemen to reload. the Pikemen would protect from other pikemen and cavelry attacks.

the same tactic could apply to Crossbows too.

Sword regiments would only be common pre-gunpowder. swords pretty much survived as the secondary weapon of the pikemen and gunners and the primary weapon for cavelry(aside from pistols)

feel free to mix and match tactics. planets will develop their own unique styles.

Imagination land

Pretty much this ^^

Greatswords/Zweihander were used to break up enemy pike formations pre-cavalry charge. They were the shock troops.

Gunners/crossbowmen/cannons would go on an elevated position, usually behind the pikemen

Arqubusiers would usually be infront of the pikemen, due to there short range, and smokey guns

The pikemen were usually mercs, notably the swiss and landsknecht pikemen.

Mounted gunners/crossbowmen would go along the flanks

Swords and shields were rarely used by the then modern armies

Heavy Cavalry were the battle winners

For Zweihanders, are you talking about the weapon?
Also, Landsknecht could also be called Doppelsoldners. Landsknecht were also sometimes armed with swords instead of pikes.

I would have to say that the majority of the forces would be troops armed with pikes or halberds. They were the staple of medieval armies.

I also do not agree with your heavy cavalry statement, though that might be because you favor heavy cavalry. You are right about the pikemen being mercenaries most of the time however. The Swiss were renowned for their pikemen, though eventually more people started using Landsknecht, and the Swiss lost their hold on the mercenary world.

Just about always cavalry would be on the flanks, and harassing the enemy army.

Archers of some sort would be the primary ranged force, with some arquebusiers supporting them.

with the advent of the Pike as the primary CC weapon and the invention of Gunpowder, heavy cavelry became more of a liability then a battlewinner.

Cavelry then were used mostly as a flanking/annoyance force which would cut supply lines. in battle they would have pistols or short carbines to inflict ranged damage quickly and then retreat. later this became the basis of Dragoon units(mounted infantry)
