Mass S6 fire- sadly that is best done by Eldar. Otherwise the fastest way to kill them is to psychic hood away their fortune. Suddenly they don't get the rerolls so it is 1 in 3 dead instead of 1 in 9 or 1 in 2 instead of 1 in 4. I think a psycannon unit or plasma rifle unit will do them in fast. (S6 is important so he can't bleed off casualties through his farseer.)

Edit: FRFSRF really works on them for me. Issue it to blob squads and your rolling anywhere from 50-100+ dice. With about 50% hitting, then an additional 33% wounding, and then only 50% killing its takes a lot. with 100 shots (about 30 lasguns) your only going to kill about 8. (someone double check my math please 100*.5*.33*.5)
You have never took out my council lol why are you commenting on this? Dont hate

100 shots 50 hit 13 wound 4 kill but then fortune means about 1.33 kills.
OTOH
3 Scatter Laser War Walkers shoot 24 times. hit 12 wound 10 and will kill about 1.11.
500 pts of guardsmen vs 150 pts of war walkers firing...

actually 500 points of guardsmen would be a full platoon fully loaded. the seer council wouldn't survive that.

Ig should weaken resolve first. If it fails because of runes of warding ignore the council. If they perils a d3 psychers are expendible. If it goes off throw everything and the kitchen sink at the seer council until 25% of them die, watch them break, and walk them off the table.
|
Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

5 pts per guardsmen = 100 guardsmen for 500 pts
Even if you could blob them, my bets are that a seer council could take it down but it would be close with 500+ pts for 10 council plus a seer.
Not even counting the 5 or so heavy flamer hits you would take that is 24 non-charge hits that will hit 16 times and wound you about 14 times a turn. So even with 9+ casualties per turn, and assuming you could get all 91 remaining guardsmen in contact, that is 45 hits, 15 wounds and maybe you kill 2. That is calculating not on the charge so assuming the jetcouncil will perform the charge after killing around 30 guardsmen with destructor that is 44 dead guardsmen before the 56 remaining get to respond.
Of course the problem is not 100 guardsmen but say 50 guardsmen with a commissar and a well outfitted command squad and sergeants. The council could still win but we are still talking 100 wounds versus 13 wounds albeit very resilient 13 wounds.

So...
I still haven't heard how your supposed to kill the seer council?
Would it be feasible to first round drop pod assault them, in order to rob them of their re-rollable saves? Since the Eldar player needs to roll for fortune in the beginning of his turn.
I understand that terminators are a good way to tie them up, but I want to kill em.
I should mention that I run Space Wolves.

If you are playing Space Wolves, it should seldom be necessary to kill the seer council. Just neutralize them, play the mission, win the game.
Having said that, multiple JotWW castings--because they target specific models--might be able to take out a farseer. Four rune priests attempting it every turn might have a decent chance of blowing past runes of warding and overcoming the farseer's high initiative. Once the farseer is dead, the council is mincemeat.
But I wouldn't count on it. Overall it's better just to tarpit the council with your durable units and play the mission against the rest of his army.

Standard marines - Librarian with the must re-roll successful invulnerables psyker ability - that power should cancell out his reroll of invulnerable misses off of Fortune. Then powerfist away at them untill they drop. The problem is 1 terminator is about equal to one council member so if it is an 8 + council, you are not going to instantly overrun a council unless you get very lucky.

I kept them locked up for 4 turns before by getting DoM in assault with them. Dropped in with MS and got up to 8w after shooting phase. He shot, very few hit, none wounded then assaulted me.
Thanks to DoM being a beast kept getting wounds every shooting phase to outlast them. (However did get my butt kicked everywhere else on the board )

With Space Wolves I use Njal or a Wolf Priest with a Runic weapon. All runic weapons nullify phsyic powers on a 4+, 3+ for Njal's staff. Anytime they try to cast fortune and want to get it off, Runic weapons can nullify it. Then I just assault them.
With Orks it is all about the dakka. My fast attack Ork list can spew out 150+ shooting dice per a turn, and when they assault, tons of hits. You cannot save that many times against that many hits. Of course probably 60ish of those shots out of the 150+ will hit, and probably 40ish actually wound. Though I would like to see a squad save 40 times and not take causalities.
My guard and Nids aren't currently legal armies at the moment (from 2nd edition) and I am missing a lot of newer troop types. I plan on rebuilding them next after I get all my minis painted. I recently got back into war gaming after 15 years off, and stripped all my models to repaint them.

Any unit with a good save, 3+ or better, will defeat a seer council. It takes them far too long just to kill something like a Tactical squad.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Like Nob Bikers!!!!
The problem isn't so much that they're tough... it's just that they tie up other tough units for several rounds. So, if you have something that can take on the seer council, hope you have other assets that can address the rest of the Eldar army.

Just finished talking about how great null zone is against GK squads of crusader + death cult assassins in another thread, and then saw this thread popped up again. The null zone librarian is the absolute strongest all around HQ a codex army has, and the worst case scenario for seer council.

Could you please explain how exactly this works? Nobody in my playing environment plays GK and I'd like to know about it before I run into it for the first time

Null zone makes you reroll a successful invulnerable save. So say you have 9 power weapon hits for wounds on assault terminators. On average with their 3++ save you should kill 3 termies. But with null zone he has to reroll your 6 successful saves so on average he should fail 2 more. 3 dead assault termies versus 5. Daemons with 5++ saves and deathcult assassins with 4++ saves that much worse.

Hit the council with something that is good in melee and cheap, with good saves. let boil for a few turns, hitting the seer with everything. this should neutralize the council for a few turns, and if you can kill the seer, the council is a bit of a non-threat.
