I like the idea a lot, there is definitely a market for terrain that can be easily packed away into a small volume for storage and transport.
But yes, some of this looks too toyish for my taste. The shinyness is probably the biggest single problem. If I want cutesy shiny toylike terrain, I'd buy a few boxes of Lego instead.
Individual comments:
Tower - pretty good
Pond - nice, some similar river sections would probably sell well (as would roads)
Hills - other than the shinyness, I like these lots
Fences - too toyish, some stone walls might be better?
Forest - yuk, I just don't think this technology suits trees at all, not much you can do about it

The glossiness is a big part of that, I think. You could almost get away with the simple shapes without that.

However, I'm not to fond of the "kids toy" look of the shiny plastic finish, I guess that one could repaint the terrain to their liking, but for $45, you would think that it would have a more "grim dark" look and feel to it. I don't know, YMMV.
Where is $45 coming from. At the top of the linked page in bold it says $25. Maybe it's changed at some point today. Either way, at $45 or $25, I'll pass. It looks pretty gakky IMO. I guess the portability is nice, but I'd rather spend more on something like terraclips and achieve the same portability, but with a much nicer looking product.
@Clang: The terrain made me think of shiny legos as well.

One more place to look is paper terrain which has the same 2d limitation but shows what can be done with some work.
In fact, you could partner with one of them to provide a frame and they provide graphics to paste over it... Automatically Appended Next Post: And oh yeah, ruins. Ruins are dead easy, look find in 2 colors and fit most games.
Ruins my man! Ruins! Automatically Appended Next Post: Yotebeth wrote:I'm looking into what Litko has and what s6 has, but all I'm seeing is unpainted stuff, of course, I might not be looking in the right place. We weren't looking to do unpainted, just because our thought was for people to be able to pull this set out of the box and start playing, no mess no hassle.
But look at the shapes. things like Litko's space corridors and industrial towers would work fine with the same colors you achieved on the tower but would be much more intersting and marketable.

We're putting a tentative price of $25 right now, as that is what we are aiming for.
We've gone back to the drawing board, and are going to re-do the set this weekend, and reshoot it. The uber glossy is a huge turn off to you guys, we'll try to show you how glossy it is, and isn't.
Also, to anyone who is worried they might offend us, I just want to let you know, you aren't going to. If you don't like something, we want to know! Our only job is to make accessories for people. We aren't a huge company, we're just a husband and wife working out of a two bedroom apartment, trying to make goodies for gamers like us. We aren't always going to win, or get every idea right. We are only two perspectives of the gaming populace. Heck, most of our stuff is crowdsourced. People come to us and say "Iwish there was a token for X" and we make it. This idea spawned by some friends who are deployed over in Korea, they asked us to design a very simplistic terrain set that could be brought with them, and packed away small. We made it, and they loved it, and we thought other gamers would love it too. We guessed wrong, and you know what? That's okay. We'll go back to the drawing board, try to make a terrain set that is cheap portable, and doesn't make people think of legos. It might work, or it might just appeal to soldiers deployed in Korea, either way, that's okay, the only thing we want to do is make stuff for gamers, by gamers and at a price we can all afford.
Again, we want to thank you for your comments. We don't have a lot of ego in this, if people don't like it, then we aren't to proud to start again. That being said, look for us next week, as we're going to be releasing some tokens and goodies for "Your favorite space battle wargame."

Agreed, not everything in tabletop gaming is meant to be a part of 40k or the GW universe.
Id imagine or shot of dullcote or similar flat clear would remove the shininess.

That's what i was thinking too, a matte spray would completely kill the shine and shouldn't take more than a minute.

I like the idea behind the product. My main criticism is the shape and colour of the product. It is too simplistic. Firstly I say go for more dynamic shapes and stick to terrain pieces that could work with this medium, such as ruins, stone fence etc. Secondly, try to go for a design/pattern that isn’t overly simplistic (put some effort into it man!).

You seem to be missing the point: this stuff's target market isn't skiled/motivated terrain builders like you describe.
It is people with no desire/skills to build terrain, or those looking for cheap travel terrain.
I'm not all that interested in it myself to be honest, but I think the description was pretty straightforward and honest, so I'm not sure how peopel are getting confused about this...

I think you have a FANTASTIC concept going with this. However, as other posters have noted, the designs would benefit hugely if they were more modular.
As a 40k player, it would also be neat to see some modular buildings/ruins/bunkers that would be able to stack, or connect to eachother to increase the versatility of the pack.
Also, It would be great if the boxes for the packs had more terrain in them. I'd be willing to pay $60 or even $80 dollars for a terrain set that could cover 30%-40% of a 4' by 6' table. And it would also be nice to see packaging that is the same as established foam tray sizes.
For instance, if I could take a foam tray out of a GW figure case and stick a whole terrain set that is the exact same size within the case, that would be great!
I admire your passion for the project and think what you're doing is great. I'll keep an eye out on this thread and for others to see what changes you make.

Fantastic stuff, but i might echo the thoughts of alot of people in this thread. Think buildings and structures with this materials, not ground and trees.
A few of those forts would be great.
