See I love football, but my first Tau paint job came out looking just like the Chicago Bears, and you just can't have that. No not one bit.

I'm a little curious how you got the Tau to look like the Bears.

Another one that occurred to me that I cannot do: Black with yellow trim, despite it looking awesome. It's a triple-threat. Steelers, Pittsburgh in general, and that damn Wiz Khalifa song.

That, and I can't paint yellow, anyway.

Luckily I haven't done this with 40k yet, but I did make a character on Champions Online in the colours of my local big team. I didn't realise for a good while, but what is seen... She had to be recostumed :(

This goes to show we really need to think hard before settling on colours.

any color scheme you choose will invariable be the colors of some sports team somewhere, it is unavoidable, just paint int he colors you like and if somebody likens them to a sports team just point out how few colors go together or how many other teams use the same colors

Now that I think about it, the Marine Chapter that I started (but abandoned later for Guard) was colored similar to the Atlanta Falcons.

A big reason why people find that they gravitate towards "sports team" colors is because sports teams usually pick complimentary color schemes that are pleasing to the eye, and we as hobbyists gravitate towards those same pleasing combinations when we begin work on an army. There's a reason why no football team (or Space Marine Chapter) has mustard and hot pink as their color scheme: it would look terrible.

Here here!!

It is hard to be impressed by a sport where the teams play 16 games in a season and only play once a week. I might take it more seriously if they played at least twice a week...

Of course hockey players have a totally different attitude to their sport anyway. In the NBA or MLB a player gets a sore finger and they don't play for a week. In hockey a player can almost have his ear ripped completely off in the first period, have it sewn back up in the second period and be on the bench to play in the third period.

On the OP, unless you truely can't stand it, I'd say go for the color scheme. There's nothing new under the sun.
As for the football debate, I believe Giles sums it up for me: "I just think it's rather odd that a nation that prides itself on its virility should feel compelled to strap on forty pounds of protective gear just in order to play rugby."

Rugby players already start out about 100 pounds less than football players, and they're much slower. F=ma.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I'm a fan of rugby, so I'm not hating on it when I say this but... If you took a professional NFL team and put them on a rugby pitch against rugby players, without the gear, the rugby guys would get murdered. The rugby guys would have a huge skill advantage because they know the game, but they just wouldn't last long. And I think rugby and ice hockey players are about the toughest SOBs in professional sports, it's just that NFL players are bigger, stronger, and faster.

But all the really big guys will be out of air after running less than 40 yards.......unfortunately for them Rugby involves running more than 40 yards.

Not talking about running backs and receivers mind, but those aren't the really big guys, are they now?

Rugby obviously requires more stamina, while football requires more explosive energy.

Keep in mind that I love American Football.

Speaking of hockey, my friend invented a colour scheme and played with it until I pointed out it's exactly the same as the LA Kings scheme. He kept it anyway because how many people in the UK would even know who the LA Kings are.

Oh, and Gaelic football is what would happen if soccer, rugby and bar brawling had a baby.

bah, Fencing is much more interesting then any other sport, but you have to be familier with it to make any sense out of it(and instant replay is mandatory)
