Yes, I understand that's what you're saying. That's why I pointed out why it is not, in fact, as clear as you claim.

otherwise we have a rule that does one thing when you use a marker, and something vastly different when you lay models down.

Yes, yes we do.

But, again, whether or not that was an intentional design move, or whether or not it was an oversight, or whether or not GW left it that way because they didn't think it was a big deal ... we're just guessing. There is no clear RAI here... just the way you personally think is the best way to play it.

Granted, but I highly doubt any opponent would allow this. Gain a greater cover save when you COULD'VE used a marker? Hell No!!

Frankly, the situations where laying the model down will actually improve their cover will, I think, be rare. It's just one of those things that sounds like a big deal when you're talking about it, but just isn't going to come up that much on the table.

Well I don't know about "vastly," but definitely "different." The LOS for subsequent units who shoot at the GtG unit will be different if you laid them down as opposed to using a marker.

The marker is clearly a much better choice from a "game rule" perspective.

Use the marker for game rule purposes to preserve TLOS to the unit.
