If you like symphonic/power/thrash/classical metal, check out Protest the Hero (Power Metal), Cult of Luna (kind of weird symphonic stuff, more in structure than sound. from Umea, Sweden, I'm convinced only awesome bands come from here), Bathory (old-school black metal, lots of Vikings here), Wolves In The Throne Room (atmospheric black metal), Twilight (see former), Eagle Twin (sludgey droney stuff), Russian Circles (instrumental progressive), Megasus (just crazy. like if Black Sabbath were way heavier), Sleep (iconic stoner metal band).
I actually went to a Reel Big Fish / Streetlight Manifesto concert on Wednesday, and I have to say that was the most fun I've ever had at a concert.
I've seen everything from Cannibal Corpse to Tom Petty to Snoop Dogg, and I still can't believe how awesome that ska concert was. Don't get we wrong, moshing to Slayer was one of the best things I've ever done, but it doesn't compare to how much fun that was
This one is for Cheesecat, who in his youthful pursuit of metal, must be lead past the steps of the temple into the atrium by the illumined rays of the experiences of the hosers that came before. This one is for you. buddy.
Hmmm mm, I'm more old skool myself. Growing up with Sabbath, Zepplin and Pink Floyd. Not strictly metal, granted but you can't go wrong with the mighty 'Tallica, my current musical tastes run from 'The Scissor Sisters' through to Sepultura and everything else in between. However I am going through a bit of a Prodigy phase at the moment.
Basically I'll listen to, and try to find enjoyment, in everything.....
New wave of British metal is the purest nectar to my ears, Iron Maiden is great, plus they're prolific, so many good songs!
If you haven't already, listen to their new album "The Final Frontier". "Powerslave" and "Fear of the dark" are excellent albums.
Also, Saxon have some epic material, "Battalions of steel", "Hellcat", "Need for speed", "Afterburner" and "Hammer of the Gods" are my favourite songs.

The New Wave of British Metal is awesome, but I can only handle 80's cheese in small doses unfortunately.
I can safely say Cancer Bats are a good choice. I too, saw them at Sonisphere, and they really were fantastic. Hail Destroyer at the end of their set was crazy good.
Spoiler:
I also saw Gallows at Sonisphere. It was one of their last performances, because the band is splitting up sadly. This is my current fav. song at the moment.

But out of all people, why me? Also I wouldn't really call Hawkwind heavy metal more psychedelic rock, hard rock and space rock.
Interesting Fact: Motorhead bassist/singer Lemmy Kilmister used to be the bassist for Hawkwind.

I don't really care for Manowar, but Blind Guardian is awesome. Any other suggestions for songs by them? (I've only heard Mirror Mirror, and it is friggin awesome. I've heard they have a lot of songs about Lord Of the Rings too which is cool)
For Whom the Bell Tolls is close to my favorite song.
IMO, Blind Guardians Best album was "Imaginations from the Other Side", with "Nightfall on Middle Earth" running a close second.
If you want a realy interesting take on "For Whom the Bell Tolls", listen to Moonsorrow's version of the song. It makes the Metallica version look like . Its wponderful.
I don't know if anyone has reccomended it already, but Iced Earth is a pretty good Power/Thrash band. My favorite album of their is "Burnt Offerings" with Dante's Inferno being a 16 minute long beast of a song.
Also, listen to Destroyer 666, for no other reason than because it is amazing.

I remembered a psychedelic rock thread you started a while back where I posted 'Coven' the satanic folk band from the late 60s. I stumbled across Hawkwind on Youtube the other day and the song Magnu came up. Instead of starting a whole other thread, I figured I'd just post it here.
But does it not rock? The early stuff is great. Way better than early Floyd in my opinion. Plus they had a dancing naked chick in their band.
Speaking of Ian.....
And the explosion changes colour too!

I wouldn't say they're better or worse than early Pink Floyd, just different. Also I couldn't really get into Coven, although an ex-friend (who has large inviting green eyes, slender hour-glass figure, ample breasts,
bee-stung lips, button nose, slim legs, long curly hair, nice ass, fair skinned, etc ,etc basically her body curves and bends in all the right places ) of mine is rather fond of them.

Damn man, she sounds like a nice one. You got good taste.
