Another question: you guys said that I can build the marines as chosen since the needed parts are included. Is this also true for the marines included in the Battleforce?

2 Lash Sorcerors, 3x3 Obliterators, 3x5 Plague Marines w/ 2 Meltaguns in a Rhino, 1x5 Plague marines w/ 2 Plasma Guns in a Rhino, and 1x8 Berzerkers inc. Skull Champ w/ Power Weapon in a Rhino.

I figured out at the weekend that the 2/9 list is still alive and kickin', i.e., 2 Lash Princes and 9 Obliterators.

Sigh, you really can't mention possessed on dakka without turning the thread into blanket statements. Possessed have there uses it depends on your list. I agree with the above stated that the battleforce is a good way to go and possessed can be useful if you know how to play them.

Possessed can be quite good if you roll a good power, and if you don't need the meltaguns you could have had if they were CSMs. And if you don't need them to Score.

switch to renegade guard bro. First thing i thought when i saw that haha.

On to the actual discussion there are two builds that keep the army fun while still competitive.
Zerkers lash prince 9 oblits (BA nid and SW will probably beat the zerkers in cc though sadly)
Plague marines with meltas in rhinos with flamers, 9 oblits, lash princes (basically your fielding IG with worse transports, worse anti tank, less meltas, anda nifty ability to move infantry in an all mech meta. god damn you gw...)

If you just want fun though you should be using kharne (really funny dude). I'm not going to lie, I got the most kicks out of playing him in a zerker rush army. Seeing kharn kill 7 beserkers in one round of CC will be something you will laugh at forever. Daemon weapons on chaos lords are also fun especially the khorne 2d6 but if you roll a 1 on either you die weapons.

Also avoid raptors just.....don't even go near them.... treat them like they have an infectious disease.

Also here is what a super competitive list would be.

Don't you love how he picked every unit from each god for the strong point and blended them together seamlessy to cover every base

Guys, could you tell me as a CSM newbie why Raptors are supposed to suck so much? Costs? Abilities in general?

Well, Raptors are like Assault Marines and access to an icon. The latter make them even more expensive. AM are mediocre in cc as are Raptors. I'd consider a squad of 5 with 2 melta guns for tank hunting. But keep them out of site. If the enemy can target them, they will be dead.

If you come up with an approximative army list, we'll be glad to help.

Oh, I ordered the following stuff for a start:

Battleforce
5 Terminators and a Terminator Lord (I just love the bulky Terminator armor and always wanted to paint them, regardless of their use *g*)
1 pack of Plague Marines
1 Demon Prince
A Vindicator

Once I assembled and painted all of them I think I will play some games and then decide what I will get in addition. Maybe a few more chosen, another Rhino and 3 Obliterators.

I have also access to quite some demons from my girlfriend's Chaos Daemon army.

Well, this will be a nice fund of models to start with. I'd consider some more Rhinos and maxing out the HS section.

Thats not a bad start at all! And what you want to expand with makes it a an even better start to a CSM force.

Dark Angels 9500 Pts
Steel Legion IG 3500 Pts
Orks 2000 Pts
High Elves 2500 Pts
