Well lately I've been working on some concept art for the game World in Ruins, you may have seen the threads doing the creep here on Dakka lately. Modelling wise my guard have been put to the sidelines whilst I've been building a small art-scale Chaos Space Marine force (more on them in later posts). So for the moment I'll posts up some of the existing concepts I've done for Lazuli and co, and give a little more detail on my aims with them than I'm able to on the News and Rumours thread.
Here goes.
This here was my first sketch for the game. I didn't know much about the setting other than the faction names and brief discriptions of them. However Lazuli was fine with this and allowed me to interpret them as I wanted. So I set out wanting to draw some badass warlord of the wastes, there's hardly much more artistic motive to it than that. He evokes the barbaric nature of the cultists, with his clothing being made up of crude materials that probably are more at home in the feudal era. Of course the addition of a few bits of converted metal and the gasmask (a mutant's skull that's been jury rigged with a homemade filter system) ties in the character with the setting. His giant mace makes him seem imposing (something that's necesarry for a leader on the battlefield and to make a neat model), and inhuman too (he needs his mutated arm to generate the strength to swing the thing). I could say that the broken Uranium fuel rods at its other end were their to relfect the setting, but honestly I just stuck them their to make it a little less bland and thought that a guy swing a giant glowing mace would look cool (but hopefully this element will be implemented into the game as a neat special attack). I could get all up on the artspy speak and say that his giant plunging mace reflects the masculinity of the character. His skull gasmask hints at the death that surrounds his existance (which he even needs to breath through to survive) and his mutated arm the corruption that has seeped into this barbaric world, of which he is a paragon of. ....But I'd come across as a bit of a pillock. ^^
Well not to carry on boring you fellows I'll leave it at that. =D
