Wow, these look great! I really need some more durable terrain, I have made about half of m terrain myself and it is all very fragile and I have had many pieces break
I'll definitely be donating $25.

Having trouble with amazon payments from outside of the US, it keeps trying to get me to sign up as an American. It also claims only US Amazon allows payments

Any advice?

EDIT: So after checking with kickstarter you need to create a new account and say it's ok that it's the same email address registered already. TADA DONE!

Ouch, sorry about that... didn't realize that there were so many hoops to jump through for international users. The site does seem pretty US-centric, unfortunately.
As it sounds like you've noticed, I've added a new terrain set to the Kickstarter... I'll post some images here when I have the final photography

In terms of the city floor sections, the current plan is to have 12" x 12" x 1/2" rubber tiles that can be arranged to form the city's base. We're currently wrestling over whether to have roads and canals and other features inset into the tiles, or in separate layers that can be laid on top of the base tiles as desired.

Inset is nice because it looks right: streets and canals are usually lower. But overlaid is really flexible because you can make the streets go wherever you want them to go, not just in straight lines. It's a tough one. We're leaning towards the overlaid approach. It seems playability and flexibility should probably take priority over looks.

Any opinions?

I'm really interested in getting the 2nd set of terrain as well, but call me a pessimistic bummer, but I'd really like to actually see and hold the first set of stuff before I plunk down any more money on something that I theoretically may decide is not for me once I actually get it in my hands.

But at the same time, I do want to get the pre-order price (and help you out).

Soooo, by the time you ship the first terrain set is the pre-order for the 2nd terrain set already going to be closed? Or will you have it set-up so that people can get their first set and then still have time to pre-order the 2nd set?

Because if I like what I see with the first set, I'll likely be onboard for most all of it, but like I said, it would be really nice to see the proof-of-concept in my own hands before I commit to any more.

Nah, that's a valid concern. It's the same pre-order period for the two sets, unfortunately.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but if you think there's a good chance you won't like the terrain, I would hold off. The Kickstarter price for the walls is only 20% off what I think retail will be, and $65 for both sets is no longer chump change... at least not for me! We probably won't be taking any orders for a bit while we work off the Kickstarter backlog, but it's not like receiving a few pieces of terrain 30 days later than someone else is going to make or break your gaming life

Finally got the finished master models for the walls photographed. These can't be painted until I get some casts, so the photos don't do them justice, but it gives you an idea of what you're getting.

Sorry for the monster image

I've got to say, I have zero interest in the walls. they just don't work for me.
I'm growing more and more fond of the original ruins, however, and am thinking of making you my first kickstarter.

I'm wondering why you aren't doing anything with any of Bruce's sci-fi stuff. I dare say he's got some far more suitable (for futuristic stuff) molds in there, especially with the rumor of Necrons around the corner.

We're sticking to our core theme for now - a semi-ruined gothic city. Lots of potential in the sci-fi stuff, but we gotta keep focused!

And don't feel ashamed, we've deflowered a lot of first-time Kickstarters I'd say it's the first time for two thirds of our backers. There hasn't been much miniatures or wargaming activity on there (yet), so it's a bit of a new thing. I expect that to change as small companies and independents become aware of the site - it really is quite a fantastic concept. If only they made it easier to find the projects you're interested in...

We've got a few upcoming models that we're going to be able to produce without Kickstarter, but we've also got one HUGE model that we'll probably use Kickstarter again for. It's frikkin' awesome, but much too early to post about... lots of parties involved, could still fall through in a heartbeat

Yeah. I read your earlier posts, where you talked about, besically, putting out the terrain themed on your city.

I was more wondering why you chose the medieval looking pieces ofer the futuristic ones.

It might just be me, but the walls look a little too high for general wargaming use since they are a fair bit taller than a space marine at their peaks, so models will only really look good if placed at the gaps.

Have you considered a 2-tiered approach, low walls to provide cover, high walls to block LoS? Could be a good alternative approach.

I do like the overall look of them, just wondering if there are ways to make them more tabletop-friendly than the current setup of half-low and half-high that having 2 different heights on the same section results in.

I was more wondering why you chose the medieval looking pieces ofer the futuristic ones.

Think they've hit a good sweet spot with these... they are gothic enough for use in 40k, but also devoid of futuristic elements that would make them unsuitable for Mordheim or LotR.

I think he said earlier in one of his posts that the reason for going with this style was so the terrain could be used for just about any game type, be it gothic sci-fi or fantasy and that certainly makes sense to me from a business perspective and its generic and good looking enough that I think it still fits within the 40K universe just fine IMHO.

I'd imagine that is the point. Especially in 40K having terrain that has spots that allow LOS to get through and other sections that block LOS completely creates diverse gameplay as opposed to when you have low walls that simply permit LOS to always be drawn over them.

Hmm. Must've missed that part, Yak.
I agree that they look good... I'd have just preferred something more sci-fi (personally).

Still thinking about jumping in.

Yes, as Yakface says we're trying to cover many possible games and genres with the style. I can't think of too many game universes where you absolutely would not encounter a decaying gothic city The business end aside though, stylistically I'm no fan of GW's techno-gothic look on the Sanctum/Manufactorum/Administratum kits, with skulls and aquila plastering every square inch of their flimsy metal walls. Give me good, thick, rugged stone!

scarletsquig wrote:It might just be me, but the walls look a little too high for general wargaming use since they are a fair bit taller than a space marine at their peaks, so models will only really look good if placed at the gaps.

Thanks, that's a good perspective to share... I like complicated terrain where model placement is important, but that's totally my bias. The walls seem very popular, so we'll probably do another set in the future that's consistently 4 feet high or so to provide an option for faster play.

I haven't fully broadcasted this yet, but due to the success of the Kickstarter (400% funded!) we're going to send everyone who picked up a terrain set (either one) a bonus two segments of the Conseptum Walls. So if you're on the fence about the Walls (haha), just go with the ruins and you'll get a free sample to help you decide

These look really nice, and they appear to be affordable as well. I look forward to seeing more options in the color scheme department, but other than that this seems really solid. I hope to see more stuff in the future!

At the currect costs $25 for the ruins and $40 for the wall set, I found the prepainted parts to be attractive and worthwhile. In fact, I just placed a $65 order for the combo package of ruins and wall set.

However, I didn't see where you were suppose to note what color you wanted. I personally want the Brownstone for both the ruins and the walls.

One or around Sep 1, they will send out a short survey. You can specify your color choice then. Even unpainted!

Hey, thanks... Brian's doing my work for me He's correct, we gather the info when the Kickstarter project ends... and there's only two days left for pre-orders, huzzah!

There may be more color options in the future. I'd really like to do a dirty white marble scheme in the future, think Minas Tirith or something, but I couldn't get anything easily repeatable that I liked. I'll keep working on it...

Speaking of color options, here they are:

Yes, it went very well!

We're going to be heads-down, cranking out terrain for at least a month, so no more orders for the time being.
We'll probably open up the site (http://www.advancedterrain.com) for orders by November, and with any luck we'll have a couple new terrain pieces by then as well.
The Kickstarter pricing is probably not coming back, though
