ARE there any fluff problems with it? That was the original purpose of this post was to figure out if the gold was a problem. Although I admit gold would be pisspoor metal for bayonets, it doesn't have to be gold. I'm sure there's plenty of other sparkly yellow metal out there in the galaxy much better suited to coating a bayonet in. Automatically Appended Next Post: I was a bit paranoid because I want to eventually enter some games or tourneys and I've seen a friend get booted from a game for having painted his Guardsmen in a Space Wolves fashion and another friend have the same thing happen in a different place because his Eldar had a clown scheme :/

Hopefully, the following attachments will help your dilemma. Basically, as mentioned above, these are snippets from the old Epic Armies of the Imperium book, so definitely can be considered 'Official' if that's your worry.

ACK! Mould lines! ack!
But aside from that, gold and red is a nice combination. A leg stripe in red or gold would look nice. You could do the boot buckle/tab thingies in gold too, just look at things like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b6/Inspection-New-Colours.JPG it's all the accessory type bits that get done in gold. Use your red as a 'material colour' on the tunics and trousers and gold for 'hard' bits like buckles, belts, you could if patient and careful enough drybrush the body armour with a light gold dusting over a black shirt.

I have done the hard points in gold, including the buckles on the boots, the belt, aquilas, anything remotely metal besides the chestpiece. Also that wikipedia pic is almost exactly what I was going for, albeit obviously less fancy (armor and guns vs. dress uniforms and ceremonial swords) but yeah that's a good example and that's the kind of leg stripe I wantd but I think it would look best in white now, if I start adding some white detailing in. Anything clothes-wise was meant to be black but htj had a great idea with trimming the tunic with gold or red, and now I'm considering white too, but perhaps white mixed with gold? How would that turn out? Would it just make the gold lighter or would it add a golden tinge to the white? The Forge World Bronze thing clears up a lot, thank you. Now if our fluff lawyers pull something on me I can pull THAT on THEM.

I think it would work better with gold over an initial layer of white, would make the gold 'pop' that little bit more. If you either get yourself a super heavy (or find it on a parts website) there's a snazzy arm with braiding that would look awesome in gold. I'll take a pic now an upload it.
I would definitely take that little bit of time to get rid of sprue lines (ack!) and the bayonets would be better in a steely colour.

Generally, gold looks shiniest if you put a layer of Mithril silver down as a base coat.

Sounds like the people who did the banning were taking the whole thing way too seriously. So someone gave his models a humorous or "non-fluffy" paint job...is that really worth denying him a game over?

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics. |

No fluff problems with abit of gold trim. there are regiments which are quite austentatious in their decoration. regiments of nobles, elite troops, things like that.
you could always say that they are using Bronze or Brass as the metal(Bronze, when highly polished, looks almost exactly like gold) so that its both flashy and practical.

Tip for painting good looking trousers stripes: It's a bit of a hassle, but get some trousers with a seam down the side, fold them up in the same manner as the models trousers, and paint the line in the same shape as the seam takes. There're only so many leg options, so you can start imitating ones you've done before pretty soon. It'll get natural to see where it should go after a while too.

Hmm, I use roughly the same colour scheme on my Ulthwé eldar (since renamed Golden Ulthwé), but then again all my blades are xenos and either withchblades or power weapon.
I would shade the gold using a couple washes, then do a couple highlights, otherwise it looks a bit blotchy.

Which kit is it exactly that the arm comes in? That would look great as a decorative model for my artillery. That's the next step also is that I want to field an artillery-intensive army, I'm thinking the shiny metal bits in gold would be very nice when mixed in with the black, white, and red parts. I really don't like the idea of camo with this scheme so red trim on a Basilisk/Russ with black and white as primary colors and the gold detailing especially on the barrels... Seems like a good idea to me. Any ideas on how to do some sort of antiquing for the ends of the barrels? I imagine whatever the gold-colored metal is wouldn't be dirt-resistant so on my artillery and tank barrels I'd like to make a sort of gunpowder-flash sooty look on the opening. Think like the old Acme and Looney Toons cartoons where a character would take a point-blank explosion and come out with their faces having black soot fading towards the back from the gunpowder flash. Again, I'm a newbie to painting so if anyone has any advice or links to something like this, I'd love to see it.

Forge World has their weathering powders that would be perfect for representing soot and powder burns.

You get one of those arms in both the Baneblade and Shadowsword boxes. Along with that torso actually, and those legs! They're nice bits for 'special' characters. That one above is one of my infantry commanders. The alternative would be to buy it from a Bitz site: http://www.bitzbox.co.uk/product_info.php/imperial-guard-vehicle-crew-right-arm-p-3513 I know there are plenty of US based ones but I don't have one bookmarked, this looks like they should be fairly cheap.
