Seconded! Lord of Night is one of my favorite books from the Black Library Series. I really was hoping they'd make a 2nd one, but i'm doubting there were many that really enjoyed the book. He came off as quite the unique character.

For 40k, it's tied between Zso Sahal from Lord of the Night, and Honsou from Storm of Iron.

Fantasy, it has to be Malus Darkblade.

Eisenhorn and John Grammaticus. They seem to retain the most 'humanity' in a crushing, spirit-sucking galaxy that necessitates doing horrible, soul-tainting things.

Anywhere worth being

There are so many contenders it's hard to name them all.

From Abnett's Inquisitor novels: Patience Kys, Gregor Eisenhorn, Kara Swole, and, of course, Sholto Unwerth.

From Gaunt's Ghosts: Mkoll, Larkin, Caffran, Domor, and Rawne.

Really, Dan Abnett just writes incredible characters. I think my favorite of all of them, however, would have to be none other than Hlaine Larkin, aka, "Mad Larks." The guy is one of the Imperium's best snipers, and suffers from acute paranoia with some thrown in hallucinations. Incredibly conceived, incredibly written, and a total badass.

Least favorite character in all the Black Library novels I've read? Justicar Aleric from the Grey Knights omnibus. No. Just no. A Grey Knight Justicar who seeks to battle the forces of Chaos through the power of love and friendship. Fail.

"Don't put your trust in revolutions. They always come around again. That's why they're called revolutions. People die, and nothing changes."

In the grim darkness of the 41st millenium... there is only brand loyalty
