G'day mate,

Lovely to see some plastic getting its butt kicked in the long war!

Really nice to see the firstborn marines getting some love in here, even down to some delicate hairdos! Well done on getting back into the swing of things man, looks like things have really picked up this year.

I know it's old news now but I'm in love with that pink/ochre Eldar scheme and I am secretly hoping we see more of that at some point.

How brilliant is the old art? Can't wait to see you bring it to life. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your comment!
I’m a huge fan of Dredd and to a lesser extent 2000 AD. So were the GW boys back in the day. I love to bring that sort of 90s aesthetic in where I can squeeze it.
I sort of got a late start as I was expecting to leave the country in March and then I finally figured out “two more weeks” might be all year. And as the law of Murphy applies; as soon as I hit my stride I was called in. I’m actually packing everything away right now.
You’ll likely see more of the Eldar a few months from now when I get back home. They are very much “on the list”; it’s probably the army I like the most but have gotten the least done with. I ended up going with the riders in the same color as the hoods the ochre just seemed too off. I’m very much a fan of the combo of magenta and turquoise as you can see it scattered in the orks my daughter and I did. I think when they are resumed the riders will carry some more of a sort of Hawk Turquoise and some ochre rather than black as I did on the test models. The magenta is however what I’m set on. There’s actually quite a lot to do. I was very excited when the new codex came out in 2006 and I bought the Army box that GW offered. Like many others I was disappointed at the lack of new sculpts on release; but the metal models clearly had the master molds refreshed for the release. I have a couple RT jet bikes to sprinkle into my pink wild host and a few grav tanks in a box.
My general order of priorities is to paint Orks whenever my kiddo wants to paint; finish any outstanding WIP marines. And then do the Eldar army as a continuous project. If memory serves I have one squad of every aspect; 48 or so jet bikes; 10 shining Spears; 3 Vypers, a Wraith lord and a war walker plus any character models. I’m likely to start picking up the new model jet bikes along the way; as I had planned on modifying the Dark Eldar bikes at the time; the new boxes let me skip that time consuming endevour. I’m a sucker for a good eBay deal. And those series 2 Space Marines Heroes.
Cheers.

So I've been on an assignment away from home for a few months and I liked the box art for the Kharadron Overlords. So I picked up a start collecting box. I had to mail everything home and I didnt take final pictures; so I may see them in 3 weeks, or they may be lost forever. I ended up magnetizing the upper dome but it needed a kickstand to stay upright so there's a piece of brass rod that sits in a hole I drilled in the lower balloon. I didnt make a ton of progress but here's what I have so far:

I’ve been all over the place with my Hobby stuff lately. I haven’t worked on my Kahadron Overlords at all since they came home in the mail (I had to ship them home from a work trip) and my 3d printers showed up so I’ve been messing around with them. I painted some color test models for SoB that I plan on printing. And made several runs of prints for my eventual Praetorian Guard Army that’ll be a mashup of a lot of Patreon Guard kits that are out. I’ll probably make a stand alone Feudal Guard Army too because pretty much that whole line is fire. I also got a thunder hawk in the mail; fulfilling a childhood dream. And ordered a fresh set of paints to finish my candy colored Eldar. So yeah...things are pretty wierd.

Because I dont play any wargames my painting and printing get to be as unfocused as I want them to be. I had to travel for most of April but I have manged to do some things. I printed this Dredd Bust and laid down a simple paint job based on one of my colorized Dredd compendiums. I'll take a proper photo of him when I build a new light box.

I was digging through my backlog and found this Yarrick and Eldrad in my WIP case. Neither belong to me and I've had them for like 15 years, so I started working on them so I can give them back. the Yarrick is done I had to strip and re-prime him He is now done unless I decide his coat needs some more depth in the black.

I've also finished the first 10 of my Praetorian Guard; I haven't organized them into squads yet as I'm working on how I want the heavy weapons and sergeants to look. But I've got about 20 more assembled and I'm working on figuring out Vehicles too. I cant decide if I want Grim Prints tanks or GW style. I've decided against the Makers Cult line of tanks for my PG.

Great job on Dredd and Yarrick. The Dredd bust really does look like he’s coming out of the comic. The PG squad look cool together, looking forward to seeing a few more of these plus tanks!

I’ve been working on some Among Us minis at about 75mm for my 5 year old. Missing is the 100ish mm hulk I did for him. I might groupshot them if I make all the avengers. My son did the Green Latern and I got to try out Tamiya Clear red over a gold on the Iron man; and now Flash. The effect is very cool.

I also did a little work on some Turtlefolk I found on my mini factory. Which pretty much benefits from my Orks style.

I’ve gotten SOME work done on my Praetorian Guard. But I didn’t like the breastplates on the heavy weapons teams so now I have to build up new ones. But I think I’ve settled on Grim Prints tanks and I’ve sliced up some heads from WW2 3d models for officers and commissars. This is the first one.

Finally put some paint on the SM vehicle sprue heads I made last year. I’m not stoked about the way the tattoos across the eyes came out but I feel it’s really true to the artwork I used as source material. I’ll probably do a fourth one with white hair per the space crusade ultramarine.

These guys will end up as Flesh Tearers Scouts. Where I’ll deviate from Space crusade is these guys are going to have big muscled arms instead of poofy sleeves. I’ll downsize some mkvi rimless shoulder pads to cover the seams and add chapter insignia. Should be a neat little scout squad. If it works out it will likely be how I build scouts for awhile.

The muscly arms sound good, certainly better than the puffy sleeves! The heads and tattoos look cool too, though they’ll need pupils to avoid the inquisition suspecting them of possession

I’ve finally made progress on the SoB proxies I printed months ago. The first 7 plus the cannoness from the SoB plastic box are nearing completion. They need heads, bases, and varnish and those 8 will be done.

I printed the arms for my scouts but the bolt pistols were wonky in size and pointing direction so I’ll have to mess around in blender and fix them. But I wondered if the size was good. Compared to a metal scout the size seems right on. The artist that made these arms and legs meant for them to be catachans but they are /chefskiss as space marine scouts. A shade taller but proportionally more accurate with the old hammer models for scouts in carapace armor than making them a head shorter.

I don’t do pupils in 28mm anymore. I really only do the whites to make them look batgak crazy; and since most imperials are loony I feel like it really works.

My output has accelerated as I get ready to leave home for work again. I also wanted to try my new light box with a Peacock Blue interior
My SoB squad is nearing completion I need 2 more heads some concrete weathering powder and varnish. Really unhappy with how the sister superior head has come out Im not quite sure how to fix it. it just feels really flat next to my other heads. I may try replacing the head with a 3d print that I like more or something.

These were just 4 orphans from a previous batch that needed heads and skintone on the hands done.

I made some adjustments to posing and even started printing one piece bodies that I preposed. I also printed out about 20 sets of scout sized pads. I think these are going to look really good with my other FT when the bases are swamperized.

I made a tiny amount of progress on my Turtlefolk, Really digging the scale 75 Fantasy tones that I used on the SOB fabric and this cloak.

I also shot a little color at a hulk model I bought last year, that I am now absolutely sure is a recast resin print which kind of made me giggle now that I have my own printer; its a weird thing to recast. Got me good though.

And I also completed this kraken last week. I actually see a few things that need to be fixed from the photo so I'll clean it up before I pull out my good camera and take my last pictures before I break until Fall. A lot of the colors in here are colors that Im testing for restarting my candy colored Eldar.

This weekend I managed to finish my first SoB squad and Canoness. I’ll have to take real pictures of that before I pack them in the case. I pushed through my FT Scouts matching arm skins to faces was kind of a pain. I forgot how I did a couple of the skin tones. I decided to have the knee pads in green like Dredd. It just seemed to hit the feel of that early 90s space marines I was going for. That’s my excuse for some of these wonky poses. I’m done to finishing the skin on one and the bases on all 5. Should actually breeze by.

For the first time in many years I’ve completed new Eldar Jetbikes for my Candy colored wildhost. The base color was applied nearly 10 years ago so despite what probably looks like a major color shift these will match my previously completed squads in fact I see that I posted pictures of them exactly as they went into storage.
all I did was match the hood gems to the original bodies and add the riders; some of the color shift is just my iPhone camera but these will go into bubble wrap to be mailed home and touched up when based. Once based I’ll take fixed white balance pictures as a group. I also have to decide HOW to base them. I’m thinking wraithbone as if on a craftworld. The cream would set off the magenta pretty well. Which is kind of why I made the leaders wrist cannon wraithbone.

I have several Vyper bodies and about 10 more bikes with me that I’ll be completing. Hopefully I’ll have figured out how I want to do fire prisms and falcons by the time I get home.

excellent and interesting stuff you have going on.

the tank is a neat 40k tweak to the tiger 1 chassis. I've always liked the pith helmet imperial guard since seeing Zulu.

The Dredd bust is best argument I've seen yet for 3d resin printing - Dredd was my fav too but 2000ad was a great read that i only managed to get my hands on partial copies during the slaine horned god and zenith run. It gave a lasting impression as i went to the trouble of recently getting the 4book zenith reprint to finally read the entire story. The bust looks fantastic; the colours are bang on. It was a great pity the Dredd 3d movie failed financially. Have you investigated the warlord games Dredd miniatures game?

I have issues with photos myself- are you satisfied with your lightbox?

Eldar minis really allow and benefit from those high colour schemes. Your bikes look like high performance sports cars. As others have said, the wraithbone base is a good idea.

I keep putting the warlord fatties in my cart and not buying them because they aren’t quite the aesthetic I want; but yeah I’ve seen the WL Dredd line.

This is like version 3 of a light box. My current box is a bankers box with the front cut out and painted “peacock blue” it’s ok but you can see the corrugated texture. I’ll probably build another one from foam board mostly because the size is limiting from the box. In any event the set up is easier than using a drop cloth but storing it can be a pain.

During the winter break I’ve had a chance to paint a little. I’ve started a few models that I collected over the years that I want to complete. A Chaos Sorcerer, Lord Executioner, a BA Praetor from the HH line, and Darnath Lysander. I’m working on a Furioso Dreadnought for my BA; the executioner and praetor will also join my existing BA. My plan is to work through these characters while working in batches on my Eldar. Next on the block for characters is my oldest model: a Dante I never got past base coating in 20 years.

I also finished the bases for 4 of my complete eldar for my candy colored windrider host. I have two more completed models that just need bases and 4 that need riders. I spent a while finding and then tinkering with a 3d print file to replace a long lost Vyper turret to complete the first of my Vyper support.

I also started the long irritating assembly of this resin beast. Boiling and Epoxying and cursing. I’ve spent a little time creating some 3d printed icons and doors to add before priming. I consider this a back burner sort of project but I’m looking forward to it. I’ve already added a 1/2” acrylic rod and roughed out a heavy display base for it. I’m hoping to have it at least blood red by February.

It’s nearly a life long dream for the thunder hawk at this point. I’ve wanted one since like 2000 or something when they were still metal.
Thank you on the elder. I really wanted a white or silver grey in the bases to set off the purple; I’m pleased with how it worked out. Now I need a way to do it like 20-30 more times without it looking like the same 4 bases.

It’s been slow going; I’ve only completed the chaos sorc thus far. I’ve been toying with my 3d printers and working on cleaning my garage. I’ve taken pictures with a potato as progress shots. I’ll have to drag out my tripod and light box tomorrow if I can finish my lord executioner and Lysander by then.

Lovely glow on the sorcerer, the base works really well for him. Is his Armour a dark turquoise, kind of like a dark Sons of Horus? The yellow on the Imperial fist is very nice too

Thank you I picked the base specifically for the Sorc, I printed about 10 different bases until I found one I liked. The Armour is Huldra Blue from Scale 75, same colour as the cape on the turtlefolk wizard from earlier this year. It came out a little different than on the turtle but I like it.

I saw some other folks doing their year of painting that seemed like a good idea. 51 models this year.

Completed Sorc

and I assembled the parts of the KO Gunhauler I mailed home to myself earlier this year,

Still not loving the way my photos are coming out but Im about as good a photographer as painter, so middling at best.
I know I said I'd do a Dante after whats on my bench was done, but I forgot I had a bobby G basecoated out in the garage so my loose plan is to finish the Lysander base, the Lord Executioner, Praetor and Furioso. Then I'll paint one of my Dantes, Big Bobby G, and my metal Sammael. Ive also got the Thunderhawk and Eldar bikes to run soon. I'll get nothing done next week, I have a business trip.

I’ve not made any progress on any infantry but I did lay down a prime and rough base coat on my Thunderhawk.
I also laid down some plaster of Paris and texture onto what I think will be a diorama base. I’m not concerned with playing this model so weight and support was better than correct size.

Been a busy week and I’ve only been able to pick up the paint sticks once. Put the finishing touches on 3 BA models and took some cell phone pics with a little wonky white balance. But it also looks like they blend really well with the last 10ish years of my BA; not the truely ancient ones but anything painted in the 21st century.

I’m seeing that I need to move my older BA to some sort of unified basing; since I don’t play anymore that’s mostly aesthetically driven but they do look better on 32mm bases.having them on 3 different bases just looks weird.

I’ve got some purple elder to do and but I’m getting ready to go on a couple months trip so I have to decide what to pack and where to leave my various projects.

They blend in pretty well with the older BAs, I think some unified bases would help even more. That’s be a nice easy project to take with you too. Will you be getting the new Eldar?

I’ve got no intention at this time to buy new Eldar, but I’ll likely get a set of the new Ranger bikes. I bought the Eldar army when the new codex was released in…2007 or 08. With the new at the time plastic wraith lord and warwalker. All the aspect warriors etc. I never painted any of them. I bought a pile of Jetbikes to build a wild host and dithered forever. Ive finished 6 bikes in 12 years; four of them in 2021.
I have also been test printing windriders. Once I nail the size I can mix together farseers and Autarchs on bikes so I’ll likely make some reading printed piles of grey instead of buying more.

I based the first two bikes I finished in like 2010 or something. That makes a total of six purple bikes. I’ll try to finish a Vyper this week. I’ve been printing a modular paint rack to clean my desk up a little. Hopefully I can finish both before I fly out.

I have returned again from another long slumber. I got excited about some new (old) models. And I’m trying to work through some backlog.

I’ve been working on a digital kitbash for Windriders. I love the new (to me) bikes but I also already enjoyed the old bikes so I moved the jets and intake around until I feel like I captured the best of both aesthetics. I went through about 3 iterations but I’m happy with it now. Once I’ve worked through my backlog of plastic jetbikes I’ll start printing these. I expect to finish my Guilliman and some Blood Angels I have on my desk and then start running at my Candy Eldar again until I have to go back to work.
