I agree. The warlock unit + farseer are two distinct units. Both for deployment, and for killlpoints of course. Its TWO HQ choices although the warlock unit doesnt fill a FOC slot.
That's my understanding at least, and everyone ive played. This of course sucks in down of war! Meaning we can in NO WAY have our seer councils fortuned in turn 1 : in DOW missions, ever. As fortune of course has to be cast before movement, thus before either the farseer or the warlocks unit has been moved onto the table!
I hope im mistaken though? (it should have been FAQ'ed then, because by the rules its quite clear i think).
And remember of course that the farseer as IC can also be singled out in CC, which is quite handy for anyone with a fist etc.
EDIT: Btw, just want to add, that i find your battle reports a true joy to read (and watch, great photos and great army!); you are a superb tactician imo, i keep learning from your deployment, moves and overall take on the game with mechdar. You are also inspiring me too try out Dual Jet-autarch, as well as this awesome Karandras build.

I put my seer council at Mid Field, and come on Turn One.
This was DoW deployment limiting you to 1 HQ and 2 Troops on the field. Did you deploy your Seer with the warlocks and if not, what squad was he paired with in reserve?
I like the list you're running - nice hybrid of seer council and mech eldar. As for Phoenix Lords being poor selections, I've seen Maugan Ra tear up, but he's largely considered to be the best of the bunch. I'm glad you prove that there's another exception to the rule when used wisely.
I posted my Farseer with his Warlock Retinue at mid field Pre-Turn 1 as my 1 HQ selection. They are 1 squad so they count as the 1 HQ unit.
I then brought every thing else from the board edge turn 1.
I think, Smitty, that may have been an error. DOW allows a single HQ unit to be placed. The farseer and warlocks are two distinct units when selecting what to deploy. Since the warlocks are not a retinue (there may only be 1 or 2 left in the whole game) they are their own unit for deployment. Remember this applies to all other HQ "combos" as well. No Chapter Master + honor guard etc. It also extends to transports, since even a dedicated transport is a unit.
I dont have my codex on me....but arnt warlocks an upgrade bodyguard?
If im wrong my bad.

No, they are a separate HQ choice that doesn't take up a force org slot. This means the council can't be deployed in DoW since it is 2 HQ choices. It also means that the Farseer must always attempt to get into B2B first during a charge and can be singled out in CC.

I play Jetseer council eldar as well, and was wondering how your farseer got into coherency with your 'locks given that they are each an HQ selection and only one is allowed on the table... My list has me either reserving everything in DoW, or fielding the Farseer with a GJB squad to grant them Fortune, then breaking off to join the Warlocks as they come on the field.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Well, you sold me on giving Karandaras a try. I've been tweaking my NOVA army for the 11th Company tourney coming up in November. The distinct lack of assault has been a real challenge with my army and seeing the Karandaras/Scorpion combo in actual use has given me several ideas. Thanks for posting the report and we'll see if I can have any luck with a bit of an 'unconventional' Eldar army.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |
