My highlights include;

Playing for WASPs while at university (upto 2nd team - I really should have taken that seriously ).

Lowlight - Playing for my home town side and being voted Player of the Year and Players Player, then rupturing all the ligaments/tendons in my ankle and missing the next season which culminated in me watching my mates playing Twickerham in the final of the national cup.

Just about every college has a club (as distinct from NCAA) team, and there's a fairly big non-educationally affiliated circuit. Its much like American football in Europe, really.
