I wouldn't call it hate, I just dislike a lot of their policies, especially gutting, and since getting video games in other places is just as easy I take my business elsewhere.

What's this? You hate a company for trying to beat competition? I would have done this a long time ago if I was Gamestop. Does GameInformer publish ads for IGN? Does Mac comes with a PC sticker sheet? Does every 100 dollars you spend at GW get you a 10 dollar off coupon to PP?

Please. Get off your pedestals.

Sold game to gamestop for $1.70, which didn't make me feel bad because it was a bad game. Unfortunately I saw it on sale there for $19.99 used. I don't hate the used game industry, but there is a better used game place near us that carries old Sega Genesis, N64, NES, and even some older ones. They actually test their accessories before buying them, which is good quality control and usually run a few games on the consoles people are trying to sell before buying it from them. Takes awhile for them to buy stuff sometimes, but they make sure the things work. Unlike gamestop they don't sell new things, but they carry used CD's, DVD's, even used Warhammer books, Codice, or even D&D manuals. Very close to being a pawnshop without being a pawn shop.

WHAT competition? Around here I can't think of any.

For all but the most mainstream games (which are available at Wal-Mart or Target) it's basically buy at gamestop or buy online. And gamestop loathes carrying PC games because they can't sell them used, so most of the gamestops around here don't have a PC section.

Hell there's so many locations around here that they're practically only competing with themselves.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Gamestop actually just offered me a $50 gift card and a buy two get one free coupon for any used game, in exchange for removing the Onlive code for Human Revolution (which I really didn't need anyway). I am more than okay with this, because it more than makes up for having a second copy of the game through an unstable streaming service. My respect for them has been completely restored.

I'm not really buying into that, they still mucked about with a new product. That would be like going to buy an iPod that comes with free music downloads from Amazon only to have Amazon pull the free iTunes music and replace it with a gift card that you could use for Amazon's own music service. It sets an incredibly scary precedent for a company being able to remove parts of a game bundle and just replacing the removed part with their own goods.

Except for that they removed a completely worthless second copy of the game (which could potentially be given to a friend, thus losing the publisher and developer a whole lot of money), and replaced it with any game I want (which is incredibly useful, since I have so many upcoming games on my wishlist). They essentially gave me the game for free (!). I wish this kind of thing would happen more often, and I'm very happy that I managed to benefit from this corporate blunder.

I seriously doubt that they'll ever do this again. It's very obvious that they're trying to avoid lawsuits, and this was a major setback for Gamestop if they enacted this nationwide for all of their pre-orders for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Not only did they not make anything on any of it, they lost a lot of money. They went above and beyond correcting their mistake, but it's not like they're willing to do this with every game that comes out.

Could be.

Until today I had no idea that there was so much hate for this company.

Same with me. I don't shop at Game Stop anymore, but I've gotten great deals on used games (bought Fire Warrior for PS2 for $3 ). The only time I feel like I got gypped was when I decided to trade in a bunch of old games, hoping to afford Metroid Prime Trilogy, and after trading in 11 different games, I got...$15. Towards a $50 game, at a time when I had next to no income. Even though they were older games, at least some of them should have gone for more than a dollar or two, especially since they'd go ahead and sell them for 5-10. And yes, I'm aware they need to make a profit somehow, but it just felt like I got completely ripped off.

Saying the Online Code is Worthless is like saying Steam codes are worthless. It paired the game up with Onlive like Steam does. If they thought they could get away with doing it in Deus Ex, it probably wouldn't have been long before they started removing Steam codes, too (because Steam is also a competitor).

The OnLive code is only worthless because I already have a Steam code. Sure, it's worth something, but not to me.

I probably would've ended up giving it away (because there is literally no reason for me to keep it), which would've possibly lost Eidos and Square Enix some money.

If they removed the Steam code, the game wouldn't even function. I think Gamestop realizes that this would be a bad idea.

Here's the thing, the voucher is actually a coupon that has value behind it when you use it. The only reason gamestop doesn't remove the steam code is for that reason, and I truly hope that Valve begins to pull their games from Gamestop's shelves in response. Hell I hope Square Enix does the same, Gamestop forced you to shop at their store now by giving you a gift card and a coupon(that I guess has no value according to you). Chances are you're going to end up over spending at Gamestop and just make them with the fact that they can easily sell goods that have been opened despite the fact that they should be new and removing parts of them as long as they give you something to buy other stuff from them.
