Behind you

If I'm doing my dark angels/grey knights, usually some massed Globus, or some of the first epic score albums.

IG, immediately I switch to the CNC soundtracks. Also my war films soundtracks work there as well.

High elves, I go Libera. Something very ethereal about youth choirs and elves. (sorry but thats just me).

Anything else and it's my usual mix of rock/pop.

normally stick a film on or some random music.

Managed to get all the way though R-Kellys Trapped in the Closet.

After a few drinks we thought it would be a great idea to try and do a whole battle report in the same style.

on the forum. Obviously

I remember the GW I used to go to in Australia played tons of metal. Good times...
Here in france it's a bit more of a mixed bag. Some metal, some rock, and some pop. Funnily enough, these songs usually contain a great deal of cursing.
Which proves you can swear in the store, as long as it's in a foreign language .

the guy at my FLGS plays country all the time. it's not for me, but it's not my shop and i'm not down there all that often anyway.

if i'm painting, i usually listen to hip hop, bach, electronic or various prog rock. there's lots of mellow, intelligent music out there, and i don't need my ears bleeding anymore. 15 years of playing the drums has aborted any need i might have had to listen to super hard negative angry gak; i just don't carry the anger around that makes me think i need angry music made by thirty-five year old dudes in make-up in my life any more. i'll take melody and finesse instrumentation any day.

Classical music is also an all time favorite for me as well. Almost any composer, but Mozart is always my number 1.
When painting that is.

I tend to like instrumentals or soundtracks for gaming since lyrics can be more distracting. Lately I've been all about Daft Punk's soundtrack to Tron: Legacy.

Iron Maiden, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Nightwish.. stuff with interesting guitars/sweeping climaxes, that kind of thing goes well.

Instrumental stuff like the Braveheart soundtrack is great too.

Trance like Above and Beyond type stuff is good for painting or if you don't want any possibility of being distracted while gaming.

"Warp Riders" by The Sword. Whole album is great for 40k

Mainly Hammerfall's stuff, but that's because nothing else really appeals to me as much. Will hopefully be adding some Tyr to my collection in the near future.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.

How about this? Great for both WHFB and 40k (maybe best for Fantasy imo)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTEi_PlFEWU&feature=related

EDIT: Now that I listen to it again...definitely Fantasy. You can almost see armies marching to the sound of their musicians instruments. The horns add to that effect beautifully.
Awesomely inspiring!

I LOVE these threads. Today's musical finds: Libera and the Sword.

Today's contributions from my 40K playlist

this one's been on Dakka before, but hasn't been mentioned. It is, however, one of my favorites.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Ewd8OeYEA

I also really like Winterborn by Cruxshadows

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVNjx4k8mWk

and Citadel

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn0f4u4klQs&feature=related

I also stumbled on this album by Fairyland a while back. I guess I'm a sucker for what I call "story albums" where the songs link together in a story.

Hope someone likes something here.

IMHO there should always be something in the background when I'm playing or watching people play I don't really care what music it is, atleast something.. Wargaming without music is just... too tense for my taste Of course I preffer metal music over everything, but I'm satisfied even if the radio is on.. but if the music is Justin Bieber or Rebecca Black...

I like to listen to the Audio Dramas while painting. As for playing I am fan of listening to Movie Soundtracks (LOTR, Tron, Gladiator, Robin Hood, etc...) Daft Punk, in general music that does not have lyrics.

Their is not a better possible song to play any imperial army with.
