QFT, the day Ultramarines become corrupted and traitors is the day Warhammer 40000 falls apart... ( besides, you think McNeil, Ward, Abnett and others will ever allow it? )
Why would they even get a say in it? Everything they write is approved by Alan Merett, who is basically the ' 40k fluff guy' at GW. He comes up with the ideas behind the fluff, and writers, Black Library, FFG, studio, anyone writing fluff, gets it approved by him. Yes, that means that Merett approved of all the changes done by Ward and Cruddace this edition in codex fluff. If the 40k timeline was ever advanced, Merett would be the one coming up with how it all goes down.
Watch a few of Abnetts video interviews on writing for Black Library. In one of them he talks about his idea he came up with for Alpharius/Omegon, and needed it approved by Merett. Luckily it was an idea what Merett always had for the Alpha Legion anyway and gave the go ahead. If Merett didn't like the idea, that whole twist would have been discarded.

Alan Merett is the Inquisition.

How about this for a possibility.
They don't turn to chaos (you have to be a bit hinky to do that, or desperate) but instead start their own Imperium out there in UM space?
It might be an interesting way to advance the plot (never happen, but hey) if they come over all byzantine and we wind up with 2 Emperors of Rome.. I mean Terra... *cough*

That's actually the way I expect them to take the fluff. Terra is the old Imperium. Ultramar is the new. The Ultima Segmentum is basically a well running mini-Imperium anyway. It also emphasises the whole 'everyone wants to be an Ultramarine' thing Ward has going.

It'd give a decent reason for all these marine armies to be shooting each other up instead of the Xenos, also

The Nova-Terra Interregnum was pretty much this.
Ultramar isn't nearly large enough to do something similar, though.

If they were going to "go evil", they would have done so when Guilliman was the High Lord of Terra.
And anyway, while Ward's fan-wankery has every Space Marine paying homage to the Ultramarines and their Primarch as their spiritual liege, there are plenty of Ultramarine successors that have deviated quite significantly from Codex practices (Mortifactors, for example).
Out of all the Chapters that could become corrupted, the Ultramarines are dead last. And even if they did and took over the Imperium, the Imperium would probably be better off for it (see: Ultramar).
I'm surprised you didn't mention Imperium Secundus, that's usually Exhibit A when this chestnut of a conspiracy theory is brought up. This is not true. While BL authors meet with Merett and other BL authors to discuss the Horus Heresy novels, the studio writers can do whatever the hell they want without asking him a thing. Merett is in charge of Black Library, nothing more.
Having one guy in charge like that implies 40K has a solid canon. It doesn't.

Not sure what you mean.
Also, you know that image is supposed to be used against furries, right?

Telling that Ultramarines will break off from the Imperium and create their own empire is heresy. They are far to loyal for that.

So? Grey Knights cleanse everything and anyone unclean.

I was arguing against it. You messed up your quotes

Sort of a waste to use it against non-furries, much like the Grey Knights are wasted against anything that isn't a daemon.

Personally i dislike the smurfs, not because they are boreing (though there are others that are more interesting) but because they are "the best of the best" they have more than half of the codex SM charaters i mean.
the libby should be a blood raven charter
telion should be ravenguard
ect ect

Even if the ultramarines go rogue, i don't think they can fight against the IoM, unless their current fighting strength equals that of at least 50% of the IoMs forces

Assuming that the IOM and Ultramar actually wind up fighting..
Byzantium and Rome co-existed reasonably well most of the time, and both considered themselves part of the Roman Empire. In a way it was more of a load-sharing thing, as Late period Rome didnt have enough resources to control the eastern end of the Empire by then.
Remember that the theoretical Ultramar Empire would have the same intolerant anti-xenos a-holes in it too, and would be a decent ally
Blag for marine vs marine, and for expatriates to still fight for Terra, there..
