DakkaDakka since 2000! I still remember that Tyranid Barbeque... it was delicious!
I only use local tournament/event forums otherwise, although I've been off Dakka a fair bit over the past year due to the heavy negativity that seems to be backed up by mods. I love the mods - I just hate the whingers.

I found this site back in 1998 when it was a Canadian Gaming Store from a website called portent.com which used to be a GW ONLY Fan Forum and GW employees would get on there and talk about what was coming out in the next 1-2 months. Now, its Warseer.com. Heck Andy, Drew, Jervis (a couple of times), Alessio, and the "Fat Bloke" used to be the ones who would leak pictures of the new products. The Fat Bloke showed off the White Scar shoulder pads when they were first starting to make the pewter pads. When the NEW greater demon came out Andy posted a picture of his "New" chaos army. Same thing you saw from the last battle report in White Dwarf but with a NEW Bloodthirster instead of the small old one. Drew was the guy who showed off the 2nd edition dreadnought when he did an online battle report with Jervis and you got to see JJ play his Grey Marine Army vs Drew's ork horde. They did a ton of stuff with Epic 40K when it first came out as well as Necromunda leagues. That site was how they generated a ton "free" press and how many of the older gamers got attached to the GW Faces you would see in each White Dwarf. You could just hop online and would find them to be accessible, knowledgeable, and passionate about gaming. Since that time, they have gone from a private company to a public company and expanded to be one of the world wide leader in miniature models.

Minor factual correction. GW went public in 1995.
However, I completely agree with your observations on the decline in interactivity, accessilbility and communication betwee GW staff and the consumer.

I thought they went public when I stopped gaming in 2000 - 2005.
