I'm surprised so many of you build and then paint one model at a time. I'm the opposite I build everything and then paint it all at once. It makes life easier IMO. If you've mixed your paints to a non-standard colour it means you have to remember what you did when it comes to the next time you add to the army assuming you're going for uniformity. With me now that I'm airbrushing and don't have enough paint pots to keep my mixes in I bet it would get very frustrating to keep setting up the same mixture to go back and do another one. So yeah I build all the models first. Maybe if I was organised and sensible I would write down what ratio of what I did but I'm too lazy and silly to do something sensible like that. I suppose it's also a money thing too. If you can afford to buy it all at once then you're more likely to build it all at once or vice versa.

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.

Usually try to work on one unit at once. End up flitting between a couple sometimes, but also why a lot of my stuff is boringly out the box :(. I need to fix that when I have money once again

I love to build my armies with thought... and looks. I always try to buy something that I think would impact my gameplay a lot. Ofc money is always the key factor on buying things, but when I have a thought "I want that unit!!", I always wait for 2 - 4 weeks before I go and buy it... Then I know,if I really want it. And I always try to buy units, that I don't already have. IMHO testing new units makes the game a lot more fun. And if it doesn't work, I try to find a way to make them work . So far I haven't regretted anything that I have bought.
I don't really care about painting... which is a shame. I dunno what it is about painting.. Maybe because I suck as a painter. or because I don't have the paints to paint my DE color scheme so maybe that might be the reason haha...

I tend to buy units that I need for my ever-changing lists, or units that look cool and I think might be useful. I then build the units I feel like building, when I feel like building them. I then paint what I want to, when I want to. Unfortunately for my armies, I don't particularly enjoy painting - I tend to see it as a task rather than something fun to do, at least unless the mood strikes me to paint a particular model. This has led me, alongside my generous miniatures budget, to having hundreds of unfinished or unpainted miniatures, which is rather unfortunate.
If you want to get your armies painted, it really has to be something you want to do, and with no motivation, it just won't get done. Enjoying painting gives you great motivation, even when it's not tournament time. Having a deadline by which your models absolutely must get painted - such as a tournament - can also motivate you. Myself, I don't play competitively, and I only play at home, so there's no motivation there.
Like I said, I don't enjoy painting most of the time. The sheer number of unpainted miniatures I have in my 9 armies makes it so that I can't honestly tell myself that there's only a little bit left, which can be a huge incentive, because hey, if it's almost done... And imposing an artificial deadline doesn't work for me, because I know it's artificial.

Make a 1k list.. walk into gw and give them however much it costs to get that 1k worth of models.. Go home and build them in like 2 days!!! Hide them from the cats for the next week until i undercoat them, then spend the next 2-4 months painting them whilst working out 500pt and 750pt lists to play with painted ones. Then i just go in and say i want something new and shiney to play with, let me give you my money and walk out with 3-4 more boxes and spend the next 3 weeks painting those.. 3k points later im over doing it that way!!!
My next SoB army is going to be box for paint style.. buy a box, build it and paint it, buy new box, rinse and repeat. I want to start getting into conversions more so this time im going to work very slowly.... VERY...Plus i want to try a more traditional painted army. SoB i think will be a challenge for me.

I have squads magnetised and trimmed.
Others are primed.
More are basecoated.
Only a couple are finished :( And that's without final detail.

I buy the codex/army book.
Then I read it, decide on the theme, and write an army list.
Once I've done that, I work out what I'm going to need to buy, Then I go shopping
At that point It's a matter of putting everything together, arranging things into their units, and undercoating the lot.
Then I paint it a unit at a time until it's done.
