You could try techno samurai....add bionic eyes and a couple of bionic limbs.
Have you ever seen the Series Dragon Ball Z?
If you have then picture the saiyans and their equipment, view screen style helmets and eye peices, things like these could make your samurai guard more 40kish.
Well the samuri died out around the time of the rifel being introduced to japan why not make a musket looking lasgun? Hmmm how to techno them up a bit............ cybernetics? you know how many times they accidentaly slip and hack off an arm or leg in weapons practice? maybe you could make a press mould of something that looks circuit-ish and press that into the greenstuff you make the armour out of?
Bionics would defo be good but i think simple grenades and guns will create the required contrast nicely. I keep thinking about a futuristic/napoleonic army for myself and was planning on using Empire handguns to represent the rifles and i think they would suit your troops perfectly. Could maybe go to town on a sergeant/s with view screens etc. If you were to go for the real hi tech feel you could even use an elf maid model painted as data to represent a master of ordinance or somesuch (random idea there) You could let your creative juices run wild on Marbo! Ninja Assassin or stealth mechanoid? You've got great skills with GS and i think you could really produce something special if you decided to build more than a couple of these guys.
If you were considering a small force of these you could even try running them as a tau or even dark eldar. In fact you could probably still use tau battlesuits as is since they are japanese mech style, and have the samurai as normal troopers - tho lack of close combat troops may be a prob.
AS dark elves you could use them as incubi or normal warriors, with ninjas as witch elves or mandrakes. could convert a jap style landspeeder to use as a vyper.
