Some people use kroot to bubblewrap broadsides. I'm not really a fan, but people who are much better than me swear by it.

Hmmmm maybe I'll do that depending on how many points I have left after everything else.

I started my army recently even knowing that there are new models coming within the year. The way I see it, when tau update technology, they don't throw away the old stuff, so fluffwise there's no problem with an army containing xv-8s along with xv8b or xv9 or whatever the new codex calls them. It's going to take a while for the empire to roll out new stuff.

Hi!

I'm mostly equipping my suits with TL Missle pod and Blacksun Filter. The filter is the cheapest choice as you need to have 3 systems. The smaller the game, the cheaper you should equip your units. This workload makes most sense to me, as I'm mostly playing against CC-oriented armies where getting into Plasma range is too risky for me. YMMV

At 500 to 600 points, bring a Railhead instead of broadsides. Chances are, your enemy might not be able to handle them well. Also, with disruption pod, they're really really hard to kill. For more points, try out what suits you best. But I really like the mobility and durability of the railhead vs. the static broadsides that get crushed when something is flaking or DSing you...

Cheers,
Kosta
