Play good opponents. There are a couple of guys at one of the stores I go to who I doubt I will ever beat (for various reasons), but playing against them is a pretty good lesson in how to wring out the best performance possible from an army, and learn exactly what the weaknesses in your own list and playstyle are.

In general though, knowing the rules and understanding how the game works should serve you in the best stead.

never blame anything. if you lose, no one thing can be pointed at and declared the sole reason for the lose. many things contribute to a loss. the key is than to figure which things that contributed to the loss were under your control, and figure out what you can do about these things. equally important, is to analyze what contributed to your opponents victory, determine which of these were under his control, and seek to neutralize them. is he heavy on the shooty? screen your assault troops with cover and throw-away units. is he heavy on the assault? take units that can move and shoot to keep him at the edge of your weapons range.

Ditch the mathhammer and just have fun

Mathhammer might slightly improve your odds of winning, but it sucks all the fun out of the game to have someone muttering probability equations under their breath as they play, and they get all bent out of shape when their SC is 0.111345 percent more likely to beat mine, and loses

If you enjoy the hades out of mathhammer feel free I find it more to my taste to play whatever units i like, and learn their foibles in play

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

I agree math hammer is such garbage. I have NEVER met a math hammer player who DIDN'T blame everything on the dice. nothing wrong with knowing your odds but don't base all your decisions on them. in war you have to take risks and that's the fun part ;D.

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

In general I use mathhammer to use my soldiers in more efficient ways, even though I know that chance could be against me.

Also OT, dice-rolling really isn't chance, its just that we (humans) don't know how to calculate what side the dice is going to roll on with all the other factors(which makes it only incredibly close to being true 'chance' for humans, same goes for flipping coins.

Chimeras > rhinos (course then again piling a regular squad out of a chimera usually creates a scene similar to Omaha beach during D-Day)
