You honestly don't think vect is good for his points? Why is that? Nearly every tournament build I see that wins consistantly has him. In my experience, vect is amazing for his points. 75% chance to go first which is incredibly useful for an alpha strike army, and he is a beat stick in combat. I am curious to hear the logic behind your statement.

Remember, this is kinda not about tactics, i know units are only effective in concert with each other (with a few exceptions *cough* wraithlord) but then what binds the force together? For the Eldar its the Farseer dooming everything.
Just what do you find yourself including in lists the most, aside from mandatory, just there cause you have to units?
|
Ya, I play Crons, what about it?
Also, they are just shiny space zombies with guns.

Nids: Genestealers or Hive Guard.
Blood Angels: Predators of the various flavors.
SW: Thunderwolves. Long fangs are incredible, but fighting a thunderwolf-heavy list is frustrating as hell.
GK: Psyflemen Dreads
IG: Vendettas (manticores and hydras are great, but i've seen vendettas win more games for IG i've played against than any single unit)
SM: TH/SS termies
Necrons: Destroyers
Ork: Defrolla-packing Wagons
I don't have much experience with the rest

This is right on the money, IMO apart from a few changes I'd make.
Black Templars: Dual Cyclone Termies with Preferred Enemy. That is one of the best units in the game.
Dark Eldar: Vect
CSM: Lash Sorcerer. The new FAQ makes them slowed good.
Sisters: Exorcist
Of course this is all arbitrary and examined in a vacuum, but it is fun. The overall list composition changes what is "best" but I think every book has some units that are standouts.
What new FAQ?

The one where Lash is no longer a PSA.

Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

SM: Drop Pod.
It might not seem useful, but for relatively low points you give almost any squad (or a full Dreadnaught) the ability to deepstrike, in addition to being mostly immune to landing on harmful stuff.
IG: It's a tough call. We've got the biggest selection of vehicles, so I would say it's a tie between Hydras, for 72" autocannon shots that ignore boost-bonus, Vandettas, for three twin-linked lascannon shots PLUS transport capacity, and I dunno. I've always found Banewolves incredibly useful, as they can absolutely ROAST MEQ infantry, what with a template for attack, having Poisoned 2+, and having AP 3. Even better is that they usually don't register as that big a target in your opponent's brain until half his infantry squads are dissolving.
On the topic of those, Chimeras are arguably the best dedicated transport in the game, with the ability to carry twelve guys (basically a full squad), hold two heavy weapons, AND have a whopping five fire-points (enough for a full array of vet SW plus some flashlight fire) for only 55 points. I would say that they're the most useful, or at least the most versatile.

An entire society spanning thousands of light years worships a dead guy in a golden throne by killing alien races with genetically mutated supersoldiers dressed in bright blue and gold armor.
And they call religions today stupid. |

Yeah, you can no do it ANYTIME during the shooting phase. It is incredibly good now. I don't know what GW was thinking by not making it a PSA. Although, I don't know what they are thinking when they make half the idiot decisions they make.

spyguyyoda wrote:I disagree with your GK assessment, zeekill. The only reason why the Psyfleman is so good is because it counterbalances the short range of the true star of the codex: the lowly psycannon. Str7, ap4, Rending beats Str8 ap4.
True, the psycannon is better.
This one was a bit of a tossup but I went with the Dreads because they allow the GK to not be outranged by other armies.

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause. |

I know we're not supposed to include mandatory units, but Space Wolf Grey Hunters are one of the best units in the codex, and the best Troops unit. I don't know a single SW player who prefers Blood Claws.

V- SM: Sternguard(not TH/ SS Termies b/c other SMs can do that better)
SW: Long Fangs
BA: Las/ Plas Razorbacks
BT: Dual Cyclone Termies w/ TH/Typhoon Land Speeder
DA: Land Speeder(75pts for a MM & Typhoon ML)
IG: Vendettas/Hydras/Manticores
