Hey no problem, I didn't take offence at all. You asked a simple question for your concern.

Yes you are right to have concern on having only one troop choice that can score. The thing is Most that I have played against are soooo scared of the walkers that they forget about the boys. Especially if I keep shrugging of hits due to the KFF. I have had a couple of close games where some have taken my boys down pretty far. Again you only need 1 boy to hold that objective.

I do play for objective I always have and always will. Me annihilating the enemy is a second option for sure. It is not my goal.

I also do plan on contesting there objectives if need be. When I place objective I place them towards the middle of the board. I never put one in my home. Especially if I want a certain side. Helps keep the other guy away from that side unless he puts one over there and thats kinda helpful too. He is trying to get one in his home. Most do want that after all. I dont feel orks need to do that. I plan on hopefully being in his deployment zone or at the very least in the middle of the board threatining his deployment zone. If I can do that then its a win for me.(in my eyes)

With my whole army getting 4+ covers its just to hard for most to deal with. yes there could be an army that would/could wipe my list off the board. I havent found it yet.

Good luck and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Hi Balsak,

Thanks for your feedback. I have only played a single game of 5th Ed, so still geting to grips with the basics. Interesting idea to put obj markers in the middle / opponent's side and go for it.

Regards,

Fentum

Yeah I just feel thats the best spot for the Objectives for an Ork army. It works for all type of Ork armies as they are always going to be moving forward.

Yeah this game is alot different from 2nd ed.

Glad I could help.

Probably because annihilation is easier, straightforward, with less strategy involved. Everybody loves a fight and massacre, that's why we're playing a wargame and not Monopoly

@Balsak: I like your strategy. It's a winning one, instead of a contest for grabbing the most. X is what I need to win, so I will make sure that I achieve X.

@Fentum: As an ork player, I kind of figured that if you destroy the enemy then they can't score objectives, right?
Honestly, I've gone to ground for the cover saves on objectives to keep boyz alive to score points for the win. That's why I play Blood Axes

With a single scoring unit I would probably lean toward eliminating it, thus guaranteeing that my opponent cannot win that way. It wouldn't be a huge change in strategy, as I'd get to destroying it sooner or later

Hey thanks. Yeah its simple but effective.

You are right that is probably what I would do as well. Killing there only scoring unit is they way to at least slow them down. Now they are forced to kill everything.

Sometimes this is harder then we all think though.

I don't know th math on the tau versus kan, I just know I've actually played it, not kidding. A.K.A. there isn't a lot of fire power at 500pnts I haven't faced and beat with my kans though I do run their guns a bit strange, one Rokkit, one Grotzooka, one KMB, which is just something I enjoy for fluff and works out in the game. I also run two sets of boyz and I switch out, not a joke, between the KFF BigMek and the Warphead for an HQ depending on how I feel, and still just haven't lost with them. Though one game my Warphead killed himself on turn 1. Perils of the warp with snake eyes, then a 1 for the power and a 1 on the re-roll...not a joke...it happened.
That objective in the middle idea is pretty interesting, I may try that, normally I knock one back and leave some gretchin or ten shoota boyz on it. Maybe a kan to guard them depending on how fast my enemies army is. DE get there turn 2 so, it's really who am I playing for me, but that in the middle stuff, that's something I may just try.

“Well, what do you carry the gun for if you’re just going to waste bullets?” Timer reloads his Boomer as Forling fires his Shrapper.
“I may ‘ne be a good shot Timer, but I don’t miss much from this close up with my hammer,” Forling continues to fire.
“All the enemies are good and far away so what the hell does that…” Timer looks up to see Forling giving him an angry stare. “Oh, yea, ok, um, good shooting.”

I am curious as to why others have not thought of putting ojectives in middle of board. It seems like a no brain to me. I alss make sure they are close to each other as well. Maybe I can spread the boys out to get both. Obviously this is more of a big game kinda trick. But if you have the models why not right?

I hate gretchin as a unit. I don't think they are worth there points. I understand you drop them on an objective and just go to ground if shot at. No brainer right there. But with all the outflanks and drop pods and fast skimmers I see it just isn't worth it.

Holding shoota boys back is kinda a waste too to me. They are so powerful with shooting and assaulting. I guess thats a difference of style of play.

Well good luck I hope when you try it you see how powerful it can be.

I love gretchin, mostly because of the models, they themselves are pretty shoddy. I only put ten shoota boyz on an objective and use the 'always go to ground' rule of thumb, giving me plenty of points to put elsewhere. For fifteen more points then gretchin I prefer it, but if its a big point game I won't field a low number of boyz and all boyz need to be attacking so I usually filter in gretchin somewhere.
Most of the time I use either/or as bait. If they waste outflanking or higher point models to kill my little squad, it means their objective/s are going to be easier for my real army to take, this has not failed me.
I do use the 2 inch squadding rule to hold 2 objectives when I need to, and it is a thing of beauty.
