Subject: How did you decide your army? (new player)
Our group started with Warmachine Prime, looking through the book to decide our factions. This was before Hordes was released. I was originally torn between Menoth and Khador, and all it took to pick Khador was reading the fluff for their warjacks. I've been happy with the faction ever since. When I wanted a small change, I started a Circle army, and I like being able to switch between such different playstyles when the mood suits me.

How I went about choosing the army that best fit me:
1. Looks - I want the army to look amazing and really impress me on the table. The Armies I start looking into are the ones that catch my eye first. Everything else falls in to place after this.
2. Overall army playstyle - There are always different playstyles in every faction but overall there tends to be things they do well, things they lack, and things they dominate with.
3. Amount of options available - I look to see how new/old a faction/army is and how limited my options within that faction will be as far as playstyle, unit selection and casters/warlocks.
4. Focus Vs. Fury - These mechanics are similar but function differently and change things on the board. I'd learn both first and see which suits you best. I personally LOVE the Fury mechanic. Rage > Mana
5. Monetary Cost - Its a sad truth but some factions are just more expensive than others. Looking at you Cryx infintry machine and Trolls Medium + size infintry spammers!
So with all that in mind, I came from 40k Nids, and love the bugs. Originally looked for something similar and gave that up since everything was so different. Was immediately drawn to Cryx and Legion because Undead Pirates and Dragons rock. Found Cryx style didn't really interest me as much as Legions, Legion is cheaper to get into generally speaking since they rely on Beasts more, their beasts are awesome, Fury is cooler IMHO, etc.
So I'm a Legion player through and through. Hope these help.
Also, one other consideration is who you will be playing against in your META. I'm not a fan of everyone playing the same faction, I like diversity on the table so it might weigh on your decisions.

That's what I'm doing, a black/dark gray with blue. I didn't want the traditional White. Part of my favorite thing is seeing what alternate schemes people come up with.
Well, when I started playing with three friends, each took Cryx, Khador, and Menoth, so I felt like I had to buy Cygnar so that each of the four main factions would be represented.
I didn't know a whole lot about the Warmachine factions at the time so I thought that Cygnar seemed kind of generic... when it turned out it was full of lighting and mad scientists and automatic weapons, I realized I had lucked out.

I picked up Skorne because of reading their fluff depicts them as "roman samurai with pachyderm power". Moment I saw the Cataphracts and Xerxis, I was sold instantly.

It looks like I'm initialy getting into Menoth by default. I'm getting a lot of Menoth from a friend who initially bought some units, decided he didn't want them, and gavei them to me.
He also gave me a couple units of bane thralls and bane nights along with a solo character for Cryx. I guess that might be the neixt firce I put together, although I want to put together a good size Khador army and On the Hordes side of things, put together a circle army.

I first choose Skorne, I really like the "bad guys" feel of them, crush, destroy and enslave! Much like my first 40k army, Dark Eldar. So I bought the deck and bought Supreme Archdomina Makeda and played a lot around with armybuilding and played 3 games with proxys. But I really felt they weren't for me, felt like I wasn't doing that different list, and that wasn't stimulating. Plus I didn't like many of the warlocks, I felt they were a bit unfocused, plus I wanted a Warbeast heavy army, SURE I could do that, but it Skorne is bascialy an infantry heavy army, and a pretty damn good one, but I wanted Warlocks who were more supporting to the warbeasts.
Aaaaaaaand I found that in Everblight. Warlocks who love their beasts and the army supports them well, were Skorne were a Infantry army with Warbeast support, Everblight is an Beast army with infantry support. And I love 'em. Their warbeasts are (to me ofc, personal oppinion) more fun then the Skorne ones. I found more love in how their beasts worked aswell, Ravagore can basically make a wall of poision clouds, lovley to hinder infantry, Scythean being a monster in melee, Carnivean being overall evil, would have liked it to have one more RAT, but hey can't have everything. Angelious just... kill stuff, omnomnom "Oh you bricked up to 28 armour, haha. Down to 16!" and soo on... Also I love Blighted Nyss Sorceress & Hellion who gives free charges to Warbeasts with Flight (read wings). Scythean + Nephilim Protector giving the scythean flight plus the Sorceress, hehehe just sooo fun.
I also like 4-5 of the Everblight warlocks, compared to 2 of the Skrone ones. And it feels like I have so much more diversity in the team.
So from the Blighted North... We're gonna eat the World :3
(and I'd prolly choose Menoth for the Warmachine part of the hobby, hey, burn the heretics!)

If you like pirates I believe their is a mercenary pirate force you can go with.
Myself, I wanted a combined arms army that had some good shooting. Also just kind of good all around armies. I ended up in a toss up between Cygnar and Khador. I thought my brother was going to go Khador so I bought Cygnar. And found out my brother changed his mind at the last second and got Cygnar. But we both went different ways. I got seige and gunmages and he went with Haley and stormblades.
But the really cool thing about Wm is it is really easy to pick up another faction. Most of the people I know have at least two factions. I ended up winning a Dryx battlebox as a doorprize and now they are my main force. I also got the two player battlebox so have a small Khador and Menoth armies as well. Eventually I plan on expanding them out to 35 points. Circle also sounds really cool. I had a deal in place to buy a bunch of used circle for cheap, but it fell thru.

I've played all of the Cygnar casters at one point or another---and the two casters I always end up wanting to use (and have the most fun with) are Nemo and Stryker. Nemo when you want to take the Jacks for a walk, eStryker when you just want to be risky/aggressive and beat face.
/Hell with it, he's only hurt a little...I'll roll 3d6 for Stryker

I like beating peoples faces in with my beat-face-sticks, So the heavier/bigger the better. Also, I like red. Also, I like Russians.
FOR THE MOTHERLAND!
It was a very long process of choosing my army, though. Quite a few threads on here, as well. But my process was something like this:
Do I like the Warcaster Model? That's how I found Strakhov, he's just too awesome to pass up (I also here is a Sarcastic Badass, so that is definately a factor as well)
Do I like the Warjack Models? This one was tougher, as my favorite Jacks have to be Merc's (Renegade, and recently, the Nomad), but I have to say the only Khador Jack I hate is the Behemoth, it just looks too... spinely. Unless the picture of the model is alot smaller than it's actually sized.
Do I like the Solo's? This is where I started looking at Ret, because let's face it, Retribution has the best looking solo's in the game (opinion). And Honestly, Fenris is the only good looking Khador Solo (Opinion). But I HATE Retributions Jacks, and so counted them out.
Do I like the units? The only army this affected my choice in was Trollbloods, because all the models are terrible (Opinion) for their infantry.
And yeah.
Also, I would like to say that the Winterguard doesn't say No to females who wish to join the ranks.
I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

Everblight Love most of the Everblight Warcasters and beasts (save for the little ones)
But hate their units with a passion save for a very select few.
I don't really know what style I'd like, this is my first wargame. But in RTS, I usually play very offensively.
Based on the warcaster/unit preferences, I'd say Legion of Everblight.
For Warlocks that are beast friendly, there is Epic Thagrosh, Absylonia,
Vayl, Epic Lylyth (ranged beasts), and Saeryn.
If any of that appeals to you, you're probably golden. However, you
will have to consider some units I think. I'm just not too well versed on
Legion's infantry.

Thank yah for the answer!
As far as their infantry goes, I like
raptors, blighted legionairs, hex hunters, and Blackfrost Shard (sweet lord they look awesome)
I think I can deal with the rest though, it's not like I'm going to like -everyone- after all.
I'm also curious what this new "succubus" unit looks like.

Raptors are actually one of the best cavalry units in the game from my gathering. Legionaires have their purpsoes with some casters, but I admit I see Legion lists with no units at all a lot of the time.
That said, Kallus, their newest warlock, loves infantry hordes. So if he's involved, you got some pretty good support.
And stuff.

Yeah I am hoping Kallus will give the Legionnaires some boost, awesome models! but I'd take swordmasters over them.
Sanon wrote:After reading up on all the lore and what not on Everblight...
The units have grown on me! How good is a legion unit force? raptors and legionairs everywhere!
Raptors are great Living infantry killers and can kill most infantry in close combat. But I havn't used them, but I do loooove the models.
Blighted Archers with their Unit Attatchment can move through cover and shoot an extra shot, they poke at units and they do it great, plus combined ranged attack to hurt larger creatures and machines.
Swordsmen have pretty ugly models, they die quick but pack a nice punch, if they get the charge, then the unit they are sent to are most likely gonna die. +UA, jikes, I don't see many things surviving if the swordsmen survive/charge the opponent.
Striders are like Archers, but more advanced (read: more rules like stealth pathfinders etc), a really annoying unit that can kite and/or harass your opponents lines, like the Archers, Striders with their Unit Attachment are lovley.
Hexhunters, well the theme of harassing goes on with the Hexhunters. First they have stealth, so that just makes it harder for the opponent, and their magic attacks will either kill their target or stop their special actions and attacks. So a lot of annoying and good units of your opponents can be severely hinderd, example: http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/khador/units/man-o-war-demolition-corps have two (*Attacks), and if the hexhunters would Hit them, they can't use those (*Attacks), or against http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/khador/units/greylord-ternion who throws up small blizzards to hinder your Line of sight, etc etc. I havn't used hexhunters but they go together with the warlock Bethayne pretty good.
Warmongers with Thagrosh is a good classic, Warmongers are a really ram, they can take punishment and deals out pain and hurt and all that nasty stuff. In difference with the majority of the Legion units, their job is not to harass.
Feels that I should mention some Solos.
Blighted Nyss Sorceress & Hellion, gives free charges to warbeasts with wings while in the Sorceress command area (8")
Forsaken: can leach fury of your warbeasts to boost her attack and damage rolls
shepard can heal your warbeast and take away fury from them.
//Cheers!

Recently I've been playing Bethayne and Belphagor and have been loving it. Her feat + 2 squads of HH and Bayal plus BFS is silly tastic.
Admitedly she has some bad matchups but that many HHs on the board with auto boosted ATT/DMG...
Legion's beasts are their bread and butter, which often times means their infintry is overlooked, but don't discount them. We have very sturdy units and with the proper caster/support, they can shine.
Legionairres + Vessal + Thags = win

I looked through all the factions and starting liking trollbloods, then I looked at the models and said yeah, I have to get Legion they just look too good, After I learn the game I might get a trollblood army but it seems more likely that I'll go to a warmachine faction just to really alter my playstyle
