No, but I would reserve judgment until more information is available.

Which, given their secrecy, is going to happen... when?

They probably get to wear cool SWAT/paramilitary clothing though.

Indeed. Of the thwarted terrorists attacks in the US, how many were actually thwarted by the TSA again?

Well, there is a wikipedia article that lists the job titles of VIPR team members, and I imagine that could be used to find job qualifications for each position.

What do you consider a "thwarted terrorist attack" to be?

Which doesn't say how they're actually trained for the job...

Qualifications are about the best you can expect to find for any job that isn't military, including the FBI and CIA.

So they have moved from the airports out onto the highways?

Woudn't it be more logical to send all of the TSA agents to the various countries of origin and have them harrass the actual terrorists before they board flights to this coutry?

Sort of a "dill weed foreign Legion".

It'd be like if you rounded up air force pilots and sent them off to fight with M16s in place of the Marines...

... except that comparison is unfair to the air force pilots really. They're more competent than the average TSA employee.

That's stretching it a bit. Most of the pilots I work with are idiots who over-G the aircraft, then feth up the landing so bad that they shear off the tail booms on MY assigned jet.

Back OT:

And the main point of the TSA is much like a regular security guard, detecting and deterring. They are preventative teams, not reactionary (like the FBI, CIA, etc.) It's impossible to quantify the value of assets saved when an incident is deterred.

A good example is how security guard contracts work. A site will have a break in, and will hire security to protect the property. Six months goes by, and nothing happens. Security arrests nobody because people see the guard and know that their chances of being caught are increased. The client sees this as six months of wasted money because no results were produced. They fire the security, and stuff gets stolen.

Only when you remove the TSA will you be able to quantify how much loss could have been prevented.
