If you're going to argue that a slight variation in gameplay is equivalent to changing the game in to a barbie game, what else is there for me to do than be an "obstinate arsehole"?

I stopped caring about Command and Conquer right around Red Alert 2 or so...

But I feel this is appropriate to the thread:

I'm just going to say this out of my utmost respect for westwood and the original command and conquers i.e tiberIAN dawn, tiberIAN sun, red alert, and i guess red alert 2.

Tiberian dawn was the first video game I've ever played in my life. My dad showed it to me when I was little and I loved it, I can still remember the cut scenes...

"So, your the new addition to the brotherhood. Well, I am seth, just seth, from god to kane to seth. I am his right hand, and I have a task for you.

*BOOP*

This is Na kumba, and he is causing the brother hood much grief, his ideas don't co inside with ours, and that makes him dangerous. Silence him."

"Back so soon! Well, lets see ho-"

you get the point. As a once loyal westwood customer I can honestly say "EA...

Right here buddy!

i for one loved command and conquer but it was destroyed by EA. And NO Dawn of war didn't destroy Command and Conquer, as it destoryed itself. Nothing in the RTS francise can compare to the original CnC's. they were incredible and the first of their kind.

So I agree completely with the OP This fething in browser BULLSHIESE will never do the series justice and IMO there is something wrong with milking something a company raped and raped repeatedly especially something that I loved and adored so much.

I, for one, enjoy web based games based on PC franchises.

CNC was about the basebuilding, about making the static bases, about defending it appropriately and infiltirating them and destroying them. Thats what characterised CNC at that time. To warp what was essentially the most major gameplay mechanic would be like transforming Call of duty into an RTS or to add Cthululian mythos to WAR online.

I don't know, Tiberian Sun was my first RTS, and I gotta admit that I thought Tiberium Wars was great. CNC4 and RA3 though I thought were the terrible ones that should have never been made. Hell, I know many people who got into the CNC franchise because of Generals, and that was a decent game in my opinion. So I guess what I'm getting at is that EA didn't go wrong in my book until they shot down the Tiberium FPS and made those accursed monstrosities called CNC4 and RA3.

(On a side note, does anyone else find it a tad creepy that Joe Kucan never seemed to age much like his character Kane?)

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Same for me m8. I liked generals, and C&C3 was still pretty fun. But the rest... gah.

Generals 2... well, my only hope is that they have the originals team working on it.

Otherwise, I'll stick to Petroglyph studio's (old westwood dudes doing their thing).

This reminds me of how fanboys look at new ideas in a franchise...

I dont think this is about "INNOVATION IS BAD"

But how radically changing formulas split up fanbases

One of the best examples? Sonic the Hedgehog. If you grew up with the original sonic, once Sonic Adventures rolled around you'll probably start to dislike the series (especially when it seemed like Sega was pumping out a sonic game every year! Who played The Black Knight or Secret Rings anyways?). Those who started with Adventures though, would not have a problem with the new take and maybe even see the old sonic as too old fashioned. This is why so many people love Sonic Generations, it took the Sonic people loved back then and brought it back but still included the more modern version so everybody can enjoy.

People buy FIFA, CoD and HALO because they know what they are getting.

Why can't other developers get that through their heads?

They don't even enjoy a fraction of the fan base that those games have, they can't afford to alienate their fans by making something 'experimental'.

Didn't Halo come out with an RTS?

lol, Halo Wars was miserable...

At least it tried something relatively new though, in its attempt to make the game usable in consoles...

The whole Kane/tiberium story line just never did anything for me. Wasn't a big fan of how they made him completely impervious to assasination and made him out to be this man pulling everyones strings. A big yawnfest.

However, I LOVED generals and I don't even remember the story behind it, lol.
