Stormraven Gunship (Hurricane Bolter Sponsons, Twin Linked Heavy Bolters, Twin Linked Plasma Cannon)
We rolled Seize Ground (5 objectives) and Pitched Battle deployment. I won the roll-off, but I gave Atlas the first turn. I wasn't aware that objectives couldn't be within 12" of the table edge (yet). The Sanguinary Priest's squad succumbed to the Red Thirst.
Turn 1
Atlas decided to try something rather risky, moving all his forces ahead to attack me. Mephiston failed his Wings of Sanguinius roll, and plodded ahead. Atlas dropped the 2 Furioso Dreadnoughts right in front of the Swarmlord. He disembarked both Rhinos and had a bit of a change of heart - the Sanguinary Priest's squad decided to use their Run move to get back towards their objective. Meanwhile, the Stormraven directed its Heavy and Hurricane Bolters at the Hormagaunts (killing 6) while its Plasma Cannon and the Furiosos all fired at the Swarmlord's squad. I got pretty unlucky here, the Swarmlord took 1 wound and 1 of the Guards was killed.
Both Tervigons spawned Gaunts, and both crapped out (the left one spawned 17, the right one spawned 8). I advanced all my forces, except for the Swarmlord who I played rather cautiously. In the Shooting Phase, my Tyrannofex Stunned the Stormraven, the Zoanthropes Immobilized one of the Furiosos, and the Hive Guard Shook/Immobilized the other. The right Tervigon also cast Catalyst on the Hormagaunts. In the Assault Phase, my Hormagaunts assaulted the Stormraven, even though they couldn't hurt it - I just wanted to get the extra 6" of free movement.
Turn 2
With the majority of his armour neutralized, Atlas continued to advance his forces. The Librarian's squad disembarked and gunned after the Swarmlord, the Sanguinary Priest's squad went after the Hormagaunts, Mephiston went after the Termagaunts and the Sanguinary Priest's Rhino went after the right Tervigon. In the Shooting Phase, the Swarmlord took a pounding, losing his last Guard and being reduced to 1 wound. 1 of the Venomthropes was also killed.
In the Assault Phase, Mephiston failed to get off any of his psychic powers, but still managed to kill 9 Termagaunts (including No Retreat saves). The Hormagaunts did pretty awful, killing 1 Assault Marine after
FNP, and being reduced to 1 in return. Finally, the Librarian's squad assaulted the Swarmlord (losing 2 squad members to the Venomthrope), but failed to use The Sanguine Sword. Not that it mattered - the Swarmlord directed his attacks at the Librarian and Priest, causing Instant Death to them both. However, the Assault Squad's sergeant managed to cut down the Swarmlord and consolidated towards my Hive Guard.
Well that was a rather disastrous turn - killing the Swarmlord so early really messed up all of my plans, and now I'm getting attacked on both sides... my best hope is for the Genestealers to provide me with some backup, ASAP.
None of my reserves arrived this turn (DAMMIT, I needed the Swarmlord's +1
so badly!), so I made the best of what I had. The left Tervigon went after the approaching Assault Marines, the right one went after the Rhino (since the Sanguinary Priest's squad was out of range) and the Termagaunts went after the objective.
In the Shooting Phase, the Tyrannofex shot down the Stormraven and the Hive Guard Shook the Furioso again (argh, 6 shots and that's the best they could do!?!). In the Assault Phase, the Tervigon and Venomthrope assaulted the survivors of the Librarian's squad, while the Zoanthropes moved into the Termagaunt to delay Mephiston for another turn or two, and the right Tervigon assaulted the Rhino. Mephiston failed all his psychic attacks
AGAIN, and then only managed to get 1 wound!

Luckily for him, I lost a Gaunt and wounded a Zoanthrope to No Retreat, but still it looks as if my delaying gambit was going to pay off! Meanwhile, the left Tervigon takes a wound, but kills 2 Assault Marines in return. Predictably, the last Hormagaunt is slaughtered, but the right Tervigon turns the Sanguinary Priest's Rhino into a smoking crater.
This was shaping up to be a blowout for Atlas, but it's looking a lot more interesting now! I just need to delay Mephiston until the Genestealers arrive...
Turn 3
Atlas' Death Company arrived this turn, he dropped them near his south-eastern objective to protect against Genestealers and Gaunts. They shot 3 of the Gaunts, causing the interlopers to fall back. The Furioso Dreads also managed to kill 1 Hive Guard.
In the Assault Phase, the Assault Marines ganged up on my Tervigons. They cause 3 wounds on the right one, but it kills their Sanguinary Priest in retaliation. Meanwhile, the other Assault Squad loses 2 attackers from the Venomthrope, but they kill it. They also put 4 wounds on the Tervigon, which kills 1 Assault Marine from the weakened squad. Mephiston continued to do awful, failing his psychic tests again and only killed 1 Zoanthrope and 1 Termagaunt.
My reserves finally arrived. The Termagaunts went after the right objective while the Genestealers arrived where ever I wanted them to... I decided to risk having my Genestealers both come out on the same flank and sent them after Mephiston - with any luck, he'd be tarpitted for another turn, and then I could destroy him. My Tyrannofex also moved to continue to tarpit the Assault Marines.
There wasn't much to shoot; the Hive Guard stunned the last Rhino and the Genestealers ran 1". In the Assault Phase, Mephiston finally got off Unleash Rage, using it to finally free himself from the tarpit. The squad that had succumbed to the Red Thirst also managed to kill their Tervigon (I failed 4 3+ saves!
4!!!), as did the other 2 Assault Squads - however, the Tyrannofex wiped the already-whittled one out.
Turn 4
Humorously, despite killing all the Synapse Creatures, Mephiston failed
YET ANOTHER psychic test for Wings of Sanguinius. Irritated that he wouldn't be able to reach the Tyrannofex now, he went after the Hive Guard (and promptly wiped them out when he passed Unleash Rage and The Sanguine Sword). Meanwhile, the Red Thirst squad went after the objective Termagaunts and the Death Company went after the 4 Termagaunts closing on their objective. They killed 2 (which passed their
Ld check!), but I removed the front 2 so he wouldn't be able to assault me. In the Assault Phase, the Tyrannofex killed 2 Assault Marines, which broke and ran surprisingly. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to catch them but they only ran 3" so I'd be able to shoot or Assault them next turn (assuming I passed my
IB test anyway).
My other squad of Genestealers arrived this turn and showed up on the right flank (THANK GOD). Unfortunately, the Tyrannofex failed his
IB roll so he had to fire at the nearest target - in this case, the retreating Assault Marines. He toasted 2 of them with his Desiccator Larvae and Stinger Salvo, causing them to fall back again. Meanwhile, the newly arrived Genestealers attacked the Red Thirst Assault Squad and tore it to ribbons, consolidating towards the Death Company and their objective. With only 1 scoring unit left for the Blood Angels, it looks the worst I can do is a tie!
Turn 5
Mephiston went after my Tyrannofex while everyone else directed their fire at the Genestealers. Atlas broke his last Sanguinary Priest off of the Death Company to camp his objective, while the regrouped Assault Marines raced my Genestealers to my objective. In the Shooting Phase, Atlas killed all but 1 of the left Genestealers (OUCH), and 1 of the right ones. Mephiston assaulted the Tyrannofex, putting 3 wounds on it and then killing it with his force weapon. As a small consolation, he rolled

on the psychic test though, so he took a wound.
I move my Genestealer ahead to capture my objective - if the game ends this turn, I win. The other squad moves south to attack the Sanguinary Priest and Death Company, but get a bad run roll and fail to make it in.
We roll to see if there will be a turn 6 and...
Turn 6
Mephiston and the Assault Marines move in to kill my last Genestealer (they do so, obviously, although he passes a whole bunch of 5+ cover saves!), while the Rhino and Drop Pod fire at the other Genestealer squad (they kill 2). The Death Company then finally catch the last 2 spawned Termagaunts and kill them with their bolt pistols.
I don't have much to do. I move the Genestealers to assault the Death Company and Sanguinary Priest. They destroy the Priest and reduce the Death Company to 2 men, losing 3 Genestealers in the process. If the game ends here, it's a tie. If not, then I have a really good chance of winning, assuming the Genestealers can pull through...
Turn 7
The game basically came down to this Assault Phase - if my Genestealers could kill these last 2 Marines, they'd win the game. I destroyed the 1 Marine, but the Power Weapon stayed standing and actually made me fall back! Crap!!!
It's a tie!
Afterthoughts
Damn, that was a very tense, back-and-forth game. Just when I thought I was screwed, things would turn around, and vice versa. I wish The Swarmlord had done a bit more though - this would have been a
very different game if he had been able to act. I might consider ditching some Hormagaunts for another Tyrant Guard next time...
