Johnny is correct that Beastmen are the Germanic tribes of the roman era and O&G as supposed to be representative of Highland Scots apparently (I'll comeback and list the pg # if I can find that WD....). Chaos Dwarves are rather blatantly Assyrian/Sumerian/Mesopotamian I mean where else do you find that crazy permed facial hair? Not to mention living in a desert building giant ziggurats dedicated to the worship of a giant bull doesn't help either.

What?

I am a Highland Scot, and I can see very little connection between the Orcs and clansmen. Beyond the fact that the clans were split up and waring between themselves the rest of the Orc fluff that I know doesn't seem to connect.

I'd like to see more info on that if you can find it!

A Highland Scot studying in Edinburgh actually! I'm from Fort William originally.

Does a third generation Scot immigrant in the American south count?

WD 283 U.S. AUG 2003 "The Children of Chaos" Pg. 9 Second Paragraph

And I quote..... "The Beastmen are the German tribes of the Warhammer world. They lurk in the deep forests, raid settlements, attack supply caravans, and ambush armies of the march (incidentally, Orcs are Warhammer Scots, raiding out from their highland homes, but that's not important right now)."

Don't know about you but that reads to me like all Scots are Highlanders. Just me or does it sound like the Brits still think all Scots wear kilts and carry greatswords? I think Gav Thorpe had been watching a bit too much Braveheart.....

It's bad fiction.

You're missing the point that pretty much all popular fantasy worlds borrow very obviously (and often simplistically) from our own. The Warhammer world's map is an intentional parody of that tendency.

Hmm, from that quote the connection is sketchy at best. It seems rather stereotyped, and the lack of a deeper understanding of Scottish history.

Highlanders would raid the lowlands, and Lowlanders would raid Northern England. But the Highland was based on family. The Orcs show no such basis, everyone is out for themselves. They raid and live in small waring clans. That is the only similarities.

A poor comparison to make.

It is a tad offensive. We may have jumped the pond but my family still remembers history and you'd think they could let the whole "rawr! highlanders eat babies! rawr!" thing go by now. Though now that I think about it I could deal with being green....

Plus the warhammer universe can be deliberately silly at times.
