A friend of mine has an absolutely gorgeous Nurgle CSM army, where all the Plague Marines are plague zombie space marines. He kitbashed SM and CSM kits with zombie and skeleton bits, and melted/cut/drilled holes in everything to represent the massive wounds the SM took to die, before being animated as plague zombies. They're all painted with varying colors of power armor, as SM of many different chapters were animated. They're visually coherent because of the undead bits, matching bases, and a gloss varnish. The army is amazing.

it dosnt take much to use bits, you simply dont use the heads that come with the actual kit, except for the nugle specific stuff, i dont know how well the scheme i used will work on actual plauge marines figures, but my moss/mold/sludge marine look pretty good to act as plauge marines

Hang on, the maxmini Biohazard heads fit on space marines/CSM?

That makes my job of making my converted Noise Marines a lot easier.

I thought they were intended for IG, and thus wouldn't fit on CSM

they fit quite well, im not the only person who has used them for such a purpose

If somebody had the balls to take these guys to Adepticon, you can paint your csm any way you want.
