Blame the amount of scams in early Ebay days.
That's fine, except that buyers can be severe bullies now and get away with it. We were one positive feedback away from power seller and the guy emailed us demanding we throw in accessories like cables and the like and upgrade his shipping for free or else he'd leave negative and deny us power seller status. We submitted this as evidence and eBay ignored it completely since it was sent outside of eBay. I'm not the only one with this story. It's also near impossible to get erroneous negative feedback removed. My personal favorite was an old computer game controller I sold. We clarified in the listing what kind of controller it was, condition, and what adapter it had, yet the feedback said "this won't work with my computer" and ranked us at 0 on everything even though the product was received before our stated maximum ship date. They would not remove it. With all the fees they charge, this simply shouldn't be the case.
