I have a tin of mixed dice, chaos colors, and I use large dice for the roll to see who goes first. Also, if playing one of my three chaos armies, I use the dice that correspond with the god that is worshipped by the unit attacking.

I almost forgot, I have a Lascannon Tactical marine who literally never hits a thing. 4 Games on the trot, he has failed to hit a single thing at BS 4. Pablo (a mate of mine) told me to put him on the floor and stamp on him and paint a new LC marine.

I have to roll dice so they exit my hand pinky side, if the exit index finger and thumb side, I'm bound to roll cruddy.
Also my friends avoid my left side in games since apparently they tend to roll cruddy if my left hand even grazes them.

I take out dice that I suspect of not rolling well enough. The current pile is nine strong, and they are just sat here on my desk. Sometimes I give them another few goes and if they roll well enough they are allowed back, if not then it's back to the pile. Having said that, I've been inspired and will now start a "spare dice" pool for people that forget theirs.

In my games with my brother I have found that some of the die actually do roll 5's and 6's more often.
And for some reason he never wins the roll to go first, even though we stopped using the loaded die.
The plural of "dice" is "die."

Other way around; although 'dice' is accepted as both plural and singular, the correct terms are 'die' for singular and 'dice' for plural.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. I always refer to missiles as rockets or they miss, call plasma guns plasrifles so they don't overheat and only use the big dice (I have six big dice which I use for everything except massed shooting). I knew a guy who used to say, "the Emperor protects before rolling" and another who used to attach strings to his Wood Elves' bows to make them hit.

I will always, without fail, lose to someone using those marble-ish colored dice that are really hard to read - especially for the colorblind (like me).
It's not that they're cheating (although a friend caught someone cheating against me using those dice after he learned I couldn't read them) it's just that I always lose.

I reward my troops for victory(new piece of wargear here, a purity seal there, etc...) and they've done surprisingly well(I mean, we always lose, but they manage to bash some heads in and make the enemy take a Pyrrhic victory)
my one sergeant, sindri, killed 3 Chaos Marines(out of 5) in Close combat all by himself, and his armor barely protected him from reprisal but he lived, and just at he was about to move onto another Chaos squad, a Berzerker squad came in and chopped him up, but, he himself did real good, so I revived him and gave him a new helmet, and a bionic arm, he is now, actually a special character for my entire new Guard regiment/codex, he was promoted to Captain.

Never let myself forget that no matter how many of my orks die, I'll still win, because odds are the enemy force I'm playing will be using troops that cannot afford the war of attrition. So I always feel like I'm winning, ergo I never get discouraged.
"Haha, I've already won."
"No you're losing."
"No. In the bigger picture I already won, the pilots of those reaver jetbikes are dead. You could kill every ork I have and not kill the same percentage of my race that I just killed from yours."
Though that's not really a superstition, it still has the same spirit.

1. I use the red dice to roll high and the blue dice to roll low. Don't worry, I did a test of 600 rolls of each to make sure it wasn't actually the case (in reality the opposite was the case). That hasn't changed my superstition though
2. I don't roll to hit and to wound with the same dice. Bring in fresh ones.
3. Absolutely no trying to jinx other peoples die-rolls by yelling "One!" or something like that.
4. Missiles miss more often that Rockets because they have the word "Miss" in them.
5. A new block of dice will be rounded up and forced to roll Sixes. Once a die has rolled a Six it is put in a circle around the dice that hasn't rolled a Six yet. Keep going until only one is left. Crush that last die with a big hammer right in front of the other dice. That'll teach 'em!
6. Newly painted models will always fail horribly on their first outing after being painted.

Vendetta 476 wrote:Anyhow, there is a superstition that dice work better if you have a painted army.
Actually, I've found the opposite to be true. My dice wait to crap out on me until after I've put in all the effort to make them look nice...
I-bounty-hunt-the-elderly wrote:When picking dice up to roll them, I select ones with higher numbers, especially 6, facing upwards. They just look like they'll do a better job!
I actually do the opposite. Yes, when I roll the reroll, there is an equal chance that it rolls any number. That said, the chances of a single die rolling a 1 twice in a row are only 1 in 36.
If my die just rolled poorly, that means it's less likely to roll poorly again... right?
... right?
Steelmage99 wrote:2. I don't roll to hit and to wound with the same dice. Bring in fresh ones.
You know, I do this one too. I think it's for the above reason. If I need 6's to hit and 6's to pen or wound, the odds of that 6 rolling a 6 again feels much smaller. I'd like to bring in a die that hasn't rolled a 6 in awhile, either dice that just missed, or dice from somewhere else on the table that haven't "used up" their luck just then getting a 6.
Oh, I also used to wear my army's colors when I gamed. My brown and white guardsmen would be commanded by a guy in a white collared shirt and a pair of brown cargo shorts. I think that was more out of respect for my army than because I thought it would help my dice roll better.
As for dice color matching army color? That was a total bust for me. I didn't start rolling even close to average (up from depressingly terrible) until I bought dice that were a color different from my army (and were also much more expensive meaning that they were more actually random).
