Thousand Sons Battleship wandering the galaxy...

Well, it has been ten thousand years...so I suppose things have changed; basically though, the Webway is still as large as the galaxy, so we must be careful how to interpret "...large sections of thw Webway...in ruins...".

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.'

I've always pictured the Webway as an insanely complicated spider's web. You know, web everywhere, there's no real "shape" or design, it's just a crapton of web. Each strand of web would then be a hallway, some longer, some shorter, some slow time, others speed it up. If you know where you're going, you can get from point A to point B quickly, but if you get lost, you might as well just start headbutting the wall until a passing Solitaire comes by and slaps you silly.

Fluff supports that, since the Fall of the Eldar meant that the Webway was not only left largely-abandoned and slowly degrading, but also unmapped. Even the BL maps are no longer reliable. Magnus the Red was supposed to explore and conquer it, but the HH occurred before the Imperial Webway Project could be completed.

I think the Imperium should be far more interested in the Teleportariums the Blood Ravens found. I mean instant teleportian with out Deamonic influence or crazy Space Elf magic? Yes please.

"The Imperium is nothing if not willing to go to any lengths necessary. So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. Enjoy tentacle-rape, Kirk, we know Sulu will." -Terminus

"This great fortress was a gift to the Blood Ravens from the legendary Imperial Fists. When asked about it Chapter Master Pugh was reported to say: "THEY TOOK WHAT!?""

Teleporter technology is somewhat unreliable. I imagine the Emperor was thinking long-range when He decided to try and conquer the Webway. Although, IMO, He would have ordered the AM to study Ork DNA to uncover their secrets regarding Void Shields and Teleportation technology, which surpasses even the Eldar.

Especially considering that it "Stays pure to humanity"

IE: Does not need conquering, and it pure in design.

Don't forget the BL. I'm sure the Emperor planned to give it as a gift to Magnus if he followed the Edicts of Nikaea, as a 'pure' source of sorcery untouched by Tzeentchian influence, as well as to use it's knowledge to safely accelerate Human psychic evolution and help repair and expand the Webway.

I would prefer to build a Teleport way of FTL, rather than use Sorcery. Sorcery is far far to random for my tastes.

Not the BL sorcery. It's from the glory days of the Eldar Empire, when the Eldar gods kept the warp safe for the Eldar, and their sorcery is a result free from chaotic taint. The Webway is actually more efficient than teleporter, since all you need is a psyker to open the gate, then enter the network, while teleporters require power to operate. Maybe on a planetary/personal scale, teleporters are better, but fleet-wise and space-wise, the Webway is the best for FTL travel and communications.

Man the way you and me think alike it kind of creepy. All to true.

IMO, without the HH, this would have happened:
1) The Golden Throne is completed.
2) Magnus keeps it stable, while the Emperor, the Legio Custodes, the Thousands Sons Legion, invade and capture the Black Library.
3) Magnus returns to Prospero and begins compiling, studying, and distributing the BL data.
4) Warmaster Horus leads a full Sons of Horus Grand Company (post-Heresy Chapter), an Imperial Army force, Imperial Navy fleet, Titan Legion and destroys Commoragh
5) Legio Astartes, Legio Titanica, Imperial Navy, Imperial Army, attack through the Webway and destroy all Craftworlds; one is captured
6) Eldar technology is used to safely accelerate Human psychic evolution, Ork DNA is 'taken apart' to learn about superior Void Shields and teleporters
7) Former Eldar Webway, now the Imperial Webway, is explored, conquered, repaired, and expanded as the entire galaxy is conquered
8) STC tech 'perfects' the Astartes; Imperial Webway used to prevent Waaagh! from forming by eliminating bosses quickly
9) Imperial Truth prevails; Chaos destroyed, warp stabilized, psychic evolution completed, Old Night losses recovered, Golden Age of Technology surpassed
10) Necrons awaken, Tyranids arrive, discovering new and powerful psychic race governed by an efficient bureaucracy and led by a living god, protected by superhuman psykers led by demi-gods

(sing-song voice)We're all in psychic power armor, and it is beautiful!

Posted this a while back on some other forum, Still holds its relevance well I think.

"I suppose you can think of the Webway like an internet connection. Millions upon millions of places to go (many of which have nude females but i digress) and all parts where at one time interconnected. now, lets say for instance we had an atomic war and several of the main servers connecting regions to other regions or even banks of information to other parts of the net where destroyed or left unusable by EMP (warp exposure). You could still access the internet in it's damaged capacity (in this example the person and other areas maintain electric power), maybe even talk to other people and visit some of the areas you could before, but there are broken or isolated connections that you are unable to access without manually going to an access point to that portion of the network.

Just like you have different types and speeds of connection, you have different size portions of the webway and areas of connection. Despite the ravaged connections they are still usable. This is where the analogy shudders, breaks down and disappears into fine dust made of impossibility and madness: Time is meaningless in the webway, so EVERYTHING is essentially happening at once (for lack of a better term). Now different packs of data or people moving along the webway have their own space in time, moving in phase with the rest of the objects that entered the webway in the exact same instant. In some ways people can sense other people on other phases of the webway, but never interact. In other ways, its like how we live now, we can see and manipulate four dimensions as humans, but anything in existence in a higher plane is undetectable (you could literally have someone right behind you and never know it), thus everything can happen without people from the past interacting with people from the present, and you don't have your great^12th grandson talking to you right in front of you.

To use the internet analogy in closing; Everything that ever has been, or will be on the 'Net, stays on the net. So everything that is, has or ever will happen in the webway, stays in the webway."
