Theme and imagery motivates my army choice. Fluff and rules come later.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

I chose Dark Eldar becuase I have always loved their fluff and their new models are amazing. Plus every game I played in my life with my friends usually I am the bad guy so Dark Eldar just feels natural.

Initially picked GK because I liked the fluff and really liked the novels

Then got into IG cause my henchmen list spilled over in terms of vehicles and I liked the fluff for IG (mostly from DOW video game)

now I'm into chaos daemons because it's so drastically different in play style from my existing shooty armies. deep strike, random units, and very choppy is a nice change of pace. Also allows me to play against myself with some fun and unpredictable results.

I've choose many armies over the years and eventually stuck to orks my methods of thought were for each army went along these lines

1st Army = Necrons: Wow this group of cybernetic undead is becoming offical!? yes please!
2nd Army= Orks: Wow necrons were boring and lifeless... hey these guys seem too cool to not try
3rd Army= Eldar: Well, i regret having to sell those orks to make ends meet I'll never do that again but maybe i should try something more tactically flexible...
4th and final Army= Orks: OMG WHY DID I CHOOSE ELDAR BLEH! Good to be back boyz! I'll never ever ever look at another army before you!

I Love orks mechanically and fluff wise, to me they are almost a perfect fit. They are needlessly aggressive and always pushing the enemy onto the ropes with their numbers and combat skills. When people think of how 'stupid' orks are they think the players are just as prone to stupid moves like making a list that could never catch skimmers, i love proving them very wrong. Tough and nearly endless these boyz and their tech always bring me a smile knowing it'll find it's way to a proper fight. Their models are amazingly detailed and the idea of being a ignorant brutish villain is right up my alley

Although I've got Dark elder and a Dark angels army on the go for giggles, from day one Chaos is the only army I felt any kind of allegiance to. They are pure, and proper Satanic. I like that, I love that they are born out of sin and embrace the fact.

Started with necrons because i really dug the terminator feel... And the fact they could get back up after being put down... Well that was just too tasty! then i went with nids cause i wanted an updated codex and i LOOOOOVE bugs/aliens.... I mean they are basicallly aliens meets starship troopers.

I always liked baddas soldiers.
First I played SM (Ultramarines, codex paint scheme and all)
Then Eldars
Right now, GK. What's more baddass than an army where each and every guy is a psyker in power armour wielding an energy crackling haberd?
Next will be CSM. For the looks and variety - i find the chaos gods concept highly entertaining

I chose IG because 3 years before I started playing, a friend of mine showed me the guard codex and I thought "This looks cool,"

Guardsmen, Fire!

In the middle of the forest :(

When I first wanted to start I went with my friend who already played and he ended up convincing me to go with the Blood Angels out of all my choices. The order that I liked things at that time was Daemonhunters, Tau, Dark Eldar, Blood Angels, Chaos Space Marines. That was all purely on aesthetics.

I picked Blood Angels when I first started because I liked the fact that I could have an all jump pack army, plus I liked red things. It just seemed to be a good fit for me, especially because Sanguinius was my favourite when I read the stories of the Primarchs.

I later picked up Eldar as my second army because of the simple fact that when I went to get a new army it was between Eldar and CSM and there weren't any Daemon Princes left in the store at the time, and I just wanted to get into it.

I most recently started with the Grey Knights because I used to really like the Daemonhunters with the aesthetics of them, but they were all metal.... now that they're plastic it was a no-brainer for me. Though since I don't like the new codex so much, I'm writing my own fluff for them as some sort of Xenohunters (yes I do know about Deathwatch) because I want to have my cake and eat it too.

Spess Mahrens! because we all start out as noobs.

Imperial Guard because their fluff is awesome, as Banzaimash said, the type of Imperial fluff I like. I love their models, play style, diversity and fluff. The only things I dont like is the painting of the infantry and the load on my wallet.

Grey Knights because I had always been waiting to play them but hated metal miniatures. I loved their fluff, I still have their old codex, their new fluff is terrible and I'm proud to admit GK have the worst fluff of any codex in the game easily.
