As for the tournament, I got invited to participate in the one at my main store and its kind of a weird one with customized rules. Anyone have advice on dealing with custom scenario type tournaments, or is it pretty much the same thing?

Long story short, modified FOC at 2,000pts, with some crazy scenarios to match.

HQ:1*
Elites: Unlimited
Troops: 2*
Fast attack: 1*
Heavy: 0-2

*you have to bring that many period, no more, no less

Sounds like it'll be a ton of fun. One guy said he's bringing at least 13 dreadnaughts.

Please, let me have that FOC for my Nids. Couple of tervigons and then unlimited hive guard - like about 25-30 of the critters.

With those rules, just turn up to have a blast. You will see some crazy lists rocking up, mass termies, dreads etc.

Hah, that does sound fun! Although it'd make 'Nids highly competitive I'd be tempted to run too many lictors and death leaper just for the look of it on the table.

I actually got excited and made a little 2k list in excel for Imp guard; you can easily field 2k points with that FOC without fielding a single elite (creed and mass heavy weapon squads for example). Still though, that doesn't really feel "in the spirit" of the occasion (plus there's plenty of other time/places to field such a list) So I opted for roughly the following:

Lord comm with goodies in a Chimera with five Ogryn. Mostly for my own amusement.
Marbo
6 x 5 man suicide stormies with either 2x plasma or 2x melta.
Hellhound
2x leman russ executioner with plasma sponsons (I think you can see where I'm going with this...)
One Harker Squad: Plas x3 and a LC

The other Troops choice I'm undecided about, if they're merely enforced choices which bear little usefulness to the scenarios I'd happily take a Penal legion squad.

Should be able to deal with a lot of terminator based lists whilst also being fun to play! I'd love to see what list you take.

i think i got a bit carried away with myself.

Advice and constructive criticism is always appreciated.

If you're interested in seeing the rules we're playing with, you can find them here http://www.therustyscabbard.blogspot.com/

Troops have some wierd advantages/disadvantages in this tournament. They don't score, but they also don't count for killpoints (meaning killing them does nothing) You can also deepstrike ANY troop choice in one scenario, which could lead to some interesting results. I actually had a couple of ideas for lists, one that fit the spirit of the event, and another that took no elites whatsoever just to mess with people

Extremely abbreviated versions of which are:

The one that actually uses elites:
*Yarrick running with 8 ogryn
*Marbo (like I wouldn't bring him )
*3 five-man stormtrooper squads with melta
*Al'Rahem Platoon:
*3 IS with: Sarge PW/Melta bombs, melta guy, as well as 1 commissar w/ PW
*1 SWS with 2 meltas and a demo charge (thought about doing 3 demo's but figured that might be a little overkill)
*PCS with Al'Rahem and 4 melta guys
*Veteran Squad with Meltas, shotguns, Demolitions, and a sarge with a PW
*Vendetta (for the vets)
*2 demolishers in separate squadrons w/ heavy bolters

The one that uses mostly troops (probably won't take this one):
* Yarrick with 8 ogryn (again)
*Marbo (again)
*Chenkov Platoon:
*2 IS with: Sarge PW, Plasma guy, along with 1 commissar w/ PW
*30 conscripts with "Send in the next wave" (to provide cover for the ogryn! )
*PCS with Chenkov and 3 flamers
*Al'Rahem Platoon:
*3 IS with: Sarge PW/Melta Bombs/Plasma Pistol, melta guy, and 1 commissar w/PW
*2 IS with: Sarge PW, Plasma guy, and 1 commissar
*PCS with Al'Rahem and 4 melta
*Devil Dog w/ hull multi melta
*Demolisher w/h. bolter

I'm really torn over which one I'm going to take. They both look like so much fun to use! I'll probably just end up taking the first one since it'll be quicker to play though...

To be honest, your list seems to be very restrained compared to what I'm thinking of taking. That second list? In one of its earlier incarnations, I had over 200 Guardsmen in it by maxing out the conscript squads and throwing in "Send in the Next wave". One of which was outflanking with Al'Rahem. That's right, I was going to outflank 50 conscripts and roughly 60 guardsmen in one platoon. God I love IG...

Edits were for spelling and the post going up before it was done...
