Quite the contrary. IMO that's exactly what leads to this kind of evil. If you live beside, talk, work, trade, and eventually date and marry each other, you recognize each other as human beings. It's unfamiliarity and foreignness which allow us to dehumanize and really hate each other. Once you really know someone you can't hate them, unless they personally do something hateful.

Thats what the Egyptian Coptics thought. Thats what the Christians in Lebanon and Iraq thought. Thats what the Jews thought. It hasn't turned out well .

I am left wondering why this particular Iranian instance is making the news just now. It's almost like there's a tendency for the media to report on negative stories from countries the US happens to hate right now.

No its been going on for some time.

I've worked with people from Kosavo that got the same surprise. One day they're at a party with their neighbors, the next they're burning each other's houses down.

Serbia was incredibly heinous too. It's a fair point that people have repeatedly expressed a willingness and ability to butcher their neighbors. :(

I do think, on the whole, knowing people and seeing them as human beings helps avoid this kind of evil, but obviously it doesn't prevent it in many cases.

What Christian sect do you speak of? I've never heard of even any one of the loosely related religions revolving around Jesus considering muhammad a prophet, including Jehovah's Witness, Protestants of any denomination, or Catholics. Is it mormons maybe, I admit I know less about them then the others

Mormons don't think of Muhammad as a prophet.

I like this idea... it just runs into problems when they try to infiltrate each other with missionaries.

Wait what? I don't know of any Christians who consider Mohammed a prophet.

I don't think any Christian movement recognises Muhammad as a prophet.

However, in this case, if he was to simply say that Jesus was a prophet then that would be to deny the belief in Christ's divinity (essentially renouncing his Christian faith). It takes a man of great conviction to face the death penalty for their beliefs, and it shows just how backwards the current Iranian government is.
