Ok most of the issues such as, the flag and skin, were my choice so don't rip on the painter. The painter listened to exactly what I said so, point your daggers at me. I personally love them and plan to increase their pirate theme ten fold.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also to the mods please don't close the thread I can't get on a computer for another 2ish hours. This is off and IPad and adding photos doesn't work so whe I get on one I will change it

Hey if you like it its all that matters. I might have been harsh before, it happens. At the very least the flags set it apart from every other DE army, so there that, and as long as it floats your "skiff" thats what counts. Welcome to Dakka.

OP, here is why there are some minor frictions in this thread.

You are a customer and the owner of the Dark Eldar, supposedly, if you are happy with them, thats your right and we dont have any rights to tell you to not like it.

However, that "right" sort of ended the moment you started pushing the product, aka the paint service company.

By then, this isnt about me commenting on what you love anymore, its being honest about it being a bad job you tried to "show off" for the company.

*edit, wait that came out wrong, let me try again.

If someone paints something themselves, no matter how good or bad it is, we will always ALWAYS give words of encouragement.
But if its about someone else's work, especially a company's there is no point, "I" at least, will give my honest blunt opinion on how it looks.
Including in this thread, I think you are better off painting yourself.

Who really cares about whether it's an "advertisement" anyway, this section is for viewing and commenting on finished models not debating such things.

The red seems almost rushed in parts where it's sort of messy, but I like that blond they managed to get on the witches in the first picture.

No, friction is caused by the original poster asking for people's thoughts on his dark eldar army and then people getting upset that a painting service was used.
I think you and your tau buddy need to realize that as new posters, you're going to be looked at with a bit of suspicion. Not in the sense that new people are an untrustworthy bunch, but rather that they could be anyone. Whether it be scammers in the swap shop, trolls in the discussion pages or even advertisers in painting and modeling; people don't like this site being cluttered up with that kind of nonsense.
Before reacting critically of the site and asserting that we should be more trusting and open minded, think of this way. We don't know you; be on your best behavior until you've been here for a little while then people won't immediately assume your just here to start causing trouble.

Well, I suppose a 40k thread can't be free of superstition, dogma, and xenophobia...

I'm not doubting who painted this at all I was merely commenting on the standard of the commissioned painter. Having done commission painting full time in the past that this is well below what I would have considered as basic. Guess you get what you pay for. Though I would be curious as to how much you were charged for this.

I disagree entirely. Luna was merely trying explain to you why you've received a bit of a bashing.
In situations like this, you're just acting as a medium to show somebody elses work which, okay, is fair enough.
However, taking pride in something you've done and something someone else has done is very different.

I've never understood people who buy commissions. I guess it's a personal choice, but I couldn't ever bring myself to buy a set of models and send them to someone else to complete for me. It'd ruin the whole point of the hobby for me.
No matter how crappy my models may look, I'll still take pride in the fact I created them.
Besides, if the people you commissioned wanted to show these off, they'd make their own thread o.O

Ok, I after reading past posts I realize I was pushing the product but, that was unintentional. I'm sorry for any issue or grief I may have caused anyone.

Any Ideas on how to make things more piratey?

Loots, pirate ship sails , enslaver and enslaved.
a easy way to fix the weird looking pirate sail is to paint it black, so the flag sets right in

I like the concept. If you like it then that is great, but I am not the biggest fan of the execution. Have you thought about basing your "ships" to make it look more aquatic?

Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.

I can not make out any facial detail, do they have any?

Otherwise ship paint scheme looks good!

Cant decide if I like the color scheme or not. The blue clashing with the red works, but the metallic paint job is not good and the faces seem to blur.

Maybe some wash would work well.

For Pirates I would paint the sails black and have the skull and cross bones white.

Jolly Rodger all the way
