The laws of your country are one thing, the laws of my country are another. If I ran upto someone in Britain and shouted something offensive in their face, the test of a reasonable man would applied. Would a reasonable man consider this to be threatening? Would a reasonable man consider this a prelude to an assault? Would a reasonable man be justified in using physical violence to defend himself in such circumstances?
A British Man, broke British Law and went to British Prison. You cannot hide behind free speech, to say that saying something offensive is the problem of the person hearing it? It isn't. It is fundamentally anti-social, and it's not just Britain it's a European outlook many countries in Europe have anti-hatred, anti-race hate legislation.
It's called "Paternalistic Justification for Limiting Speech" in both Philosophy and law.

I'm disappointed you don't read what I have written and look for merit in it, rather than judging on the surface based on Nationality. If I were to do the same I would never have discovered, Hemmingway, Frost or Twain.
I don't judge the whole of the US based on certain items, though I would like to highlight your unbelievable arrogance to the British Legal System requiring Extradition rulings without evidence to be granted, but will not reciprocate when it is an American required in a British Court. So a British Citizen has no protection under law from a foreign government. Imagine if US citizens were taken without evidence or appeal to face trial in another country under another countries legal system in their penal system. You demand evidence, when we demand the same you start throwing teddies out of the Pram. Again we are back to being reasonable and rational. The US likes to be better than everyone and therefore will never accept a level playing field, everything has to be tilted in the USA's favour. This is your achilles heal because it builds resentment with the rest of the world, as your greatest friend and ally, it is our duty to point this out.
