I think it's unnecessary and the original stands great on its own, but I'm cautiously optimistic given that in the past folks involved have said they didn't want to do it unless they had a really good idea for it.

None of my friends find Will Ferrell funny (or Steve Carell, or Ben Stiller, or any of the other hacks they work with.).

They're doing a sequel to Anchorman?

My outlook on it is that if the movie isn't good, I don't have to watch it. It won't diminish my enjoyment of the original. Indeed, I doubt that anything could.

Agreed, that scene is easily in my top 10 fav comedy movie moments. Possibly top 5.

I'd also like to take this time out to direct people to Grandma's Boy. I probably can't link the clips directly, but damn if Dante isn't the greatest thing ever.

Will Ferrell gets a lot of hate, for good reason. He (like Jim Carrey, and to an extent Adam Sandler) plays the same, exact character in every movie he's in - a really stupid, really obnoxious guy. While I personally like him, most people find him annoying.

To be fair, though, Anchorman had a ton of really funny quotes from the movie. One of the senior classes from my high school used a quote for their graduation t-shirts (something like 2008 Seniors...we're kind of a big deal). His later movies haven't been nearly as good as Anchorman, though Step Brothers was up there.

He was excellent in Stranger Than Fiction. It was a nice change of pace.

I'm glad someone mentioned this one.

I love "Stranger Than Fiction". It showed that Ferrell can, in fact, play a grown-up.

There are still elements of his standard comedic persona in there, but it is much more grown-up and toned down.
