No, actually they're designed to allow special models to actually have a chance of dying, and to allow for mixed armour as opposed to the hrrid mixed armour rules in 4th.

In 4th ed the sarge and special weapons were essentially always the last to die, and mixed armour made mixed units awful to deal with. This is fairly unrealistic.

However they then introduced the stacking issue, which isnt too much of a problem in most units, but occurs all the time with certain specialised units, such as nobs and paladins.

Hi guys

I was reading through the thread and found out I am probably doing the wound allocation the wrong way.

Situation A:
4 bolter marines and one with flamer are wounded with 9 bolter shots. Each bolter than gets 2 wounds, flamer gets only 1. So I would roll for each bolter marine separately, removing them on any 1 or 2. From what I get from this thread, I should roll all bolter marine armour saves together and remove a marine for every 1 or 2.

Situation B:
Said marines get charged in CC are wounded with 2 power weapon attacks and 7 normal. Do I get to allocate two wounds from power weapon on a bolter marine? Or do I have to either remove two bolter marines or one flamer (I can allocate the two wounds to him, right?).

So can someone please tell me the proper way to resolve these two situations? I have been out of the hoby for about two years so I am a little rusty on the rules.

That is correct. You allocate on individual models, but unsaved wounds are taken from the "group" the models belong to.

In this situation, it would be perfectly legal to put both power weapon wounds on a single model (including a bolter marine). However, if you put both power weapon wounds on a bolter marine, you will lose 2 models. The power weapon wounds would cause two unsaved wounds, and these are taken from all of your bolter marines in the unit. On the other hand, if you put them both on the flamer marine, it will cause two wounds but you will only lose one model.
