1) I don't want to mate with you.
2) What is your definition of a color? If I paint something red and then use a wash, there are literally countless shades of red on the model. That's infinity color, way beyond your silly Tri-color requirement.

Easily one of the funnier pieces of all time from South Park.

And those weren't walls of text Joe. Don't make me show you walls of text. You will never want to read again.

Yeah the tri-color standard is a bit odd. Technically if you did the OP's paint scheme, then each eye a different color you would qualify. But this shading sounds interesting. I personally would say that so long as 3 different pots of whatever touched the model it counts. But I am sure there would be those who argue they have to be different hues or what not entirely.

Really so long as it doesn't look like you just dipped them in a pot of one color when you look at it, it should be fine given the theme OP is going for. But that is just me and of course mileage may vary.

Bro. Don't let anybody deter you from doing what you want. If you want to field a statue-esque army don't f^@king worry about what anybody "thinks." BUT here's my opinion.

DIP DIP DIP!!!!!!!!

I de-sprued, assembled and painted 2 AoBR sets in two days. About 12 hrs total and they look OK for tabletop. Here's the second set. Remember 1 day of painting to make about 1400 points of Salamanders with customization. So... screw the haters. I spent about 20 min on that HQ from opening the box to finished product (not including dry times)....

The how to is below:
1. Krylon Base Coat (green)
2. Highlight whatever you want (I did gold edges on shoulder pads and red purity seals with white parcments)
3. Paint base black (walmart tube acrylic)
4. Dip (MinWax Polyshade Royal Walnut Satin Finish)
5. Dry (supervise to avoid ugly drip marks or to keep them from being cememented to your painting surface)
6. Transport in ziplock or old sock (they are indestructable and unchippable)

Yes the doktor has it right. Dipping is amazing. And some form of sorcery I am sure.

There is a man in our group who dipped his Dark Angels (I think it may even still be in the P&M Blogs somewhere) and it really made them pop. His painting was great beforehand, but that dipping was just several levels of unfair in terms of effort to result.

My only concern with dipping in this case is it may make them a little glossy, and potentially lose that stone look that the OP is going for. But I think you could always do a very light drybrush afterwards (especially with the new GW Dry paints) to get a dustier or grittier look again.

The would-be glossiness of the Necrons would matter little to me, but thanks for pointing it out to others.

Then hurry up and get those Necrons stoned!

Seriously I want to see at least one pic of this scheme. Please?

Hit those dipped models with a matte spray clearcoat and the shine goes away and they look perfect.

I honestly don't understand when people take offense at models painted in some quick way or the other backed up by the argument: "But I spent so much time on mine!"
Is it mentally followed by: "And I want to feel all this time I've spent to be justifieeeeeeeeed!"?

Some people feel like if they put X amount of effort into something, everyone else should put in X amount of effort, or close to it. Or that everyone needs to meet their standards, whatever they are. But this is a varied hobby, or really, is a bunch of sub-hobbies grouped together in one system. Some people are all about painting, others are all about playing, and most are somewhere in between on the scale. Problems can arise when people too far apart on the scale come together.

If the quick and easy method gets paint on those crons, do it! I much rather prefer playing painted than non-painted, and quickshade usually takes care of allowing me to see details on a model.
