Nice. If you don't mind me asking how far away is the GT site from the airport? I'd like to make it out and it will depend upon my travel schedule.

The airport is about 40 minutes from the site depending on the time of day. They're on opposite sides of the city.

I dont know them off the top of my head but there are several so here :www.mapquest.com

Go there:

Type in: Lee's Summit High School, 400 SE Blue Pkwy, Lees Summit, MO 64063

Then select lodging at the top of the map it is the insignia of a bed.
This way you can search hotels you would be interested in that are in the surrounding area.

Yes there is, Recruits website has a listing of the closest hotels to the event along with their rates. I'm pretty sure a few are within a short walk (even for someone lazy like me) of the event.

Mid-Late July is going to be our cut off for Sixth. We don't have a specific date that Sixth must release by, but we'll definitely make an announcement once we find out more about Sixth Edition's street date.

Dont like the first part of that comment but it is what it is.... As for spending money to come and play against unpainted armies. Even though it is available you will probably be surprised how many will still have fully painted armies. You come to play dont you? The group was founded on the basis of playing. Sure we have competitions for painting occasionally etc... but are main focus to to compete and have fun. Regardless if an army is painted or not. If you feel you wont have fun unless both armies are painted then that is your choice... everyone has there idea of fun. My main concern is the part about rolling the dice. (I do love conversions though. )

Don't get me wrong here, but the lack of a basic painting requirement makes this a bit of a decision for me as well, when otherwise this tournament would be a sure thing. It is fairly demoralizing to plunk down my army that I spent countless hours painting only to see a grey plastic army across the table. It is, of course. a matter of personal preference and what people want out of the game.

One of the reasons I pay to attend such events is to get good pictures of my army facing off. Obviously, Grey plastic does not make for the best pics. Of course, I play primarily for the story that a game tells. If I get a few fun and memorable games in, winning is irrelevant.

That being said I may yet attend. I want to show my support for the people who put forth the substantial effort and expense of facilitating such an event in this area.  (Whom I hope will take this post in the spirit intended)

Thanks for putting this together guys.

I just want to take a moment to reiterate Tomb King's earlier comments, that this will be a 6th edition tournament. We had our first meeting on the changes on Saturday night, and we're still working through the book (it didn't help that half of the participants in the meeting had JUST played in a tournament or judged it, and not had time to go through a lot of the rulebook). We'll be working throughout the month on updating any information and will have everything updated by then. I can say for certain that Allies are in, and we're leaning heavily toward Fortifications being in as well, though we do have some logistics concerns with this, that we're looking at how we can overcome them.

Now, onto the comments about no painting. This has always been a major aspect of our club. We all pay for our toy soldiers, and we don't want anyone to ever feel like they can't play with the toy soldiers they bought when playing with us. We understand not everyone has the same laid back approach to painting requirements we do, and that some people just outright refuse to play against non painted armies. While we're sorry if anyone doesn't wish to attend the event because of this, our acceptance of anyone's army no matter how horribly painted, or unpainted it's state, is one of the things we've always been, and likely will always be adamant about. That said, Tomb King is also right that just because we allow it doesn't mean people take advantage of it. In the past 3 years of running this event on a local/regional scale, I've only seen maybe 2 unpainted armies total over that entire time.

Hey everyone Dennis here TO for this event. Like has been stated we are running this as 6th edition. Our missions will be posted no later than July 30th.

As for painting requirements this year we have somethings in mind to STRONGLY encourage people to paint there armies. This more free stuff just for painting your army. We are hard at work on the championship belt I hope to get pictures up by the end of the month.

I am guessing the winner gets a place in the 2013 NOVA open considering this years NOVA is before the Midwest Massacre?

That is correct the winner will receive a ticket to the NOVA open 2013 in addition to the bugeater GT. Quite a prize for first place.

Is the ticket to the NOVA open or the NOVA invitational? I have heard both, and there is a pretty big difference between the two.

I didn't see anything changing this so I figure I should ask...

Is objective placement before deciding deployment zones or after (which is how it is in the book)?

I am actively seeking out the answer to your question I just need to hook up with the main judge to confirm it. Sorry for the delay.

No problem. Just to be clear, this is not about the tournament having set objective locations.

The book has objective deployment;

1. Pick sides.
2. Fortifications/Terrain
3. Objectives
4. Armies

The problem here is that it allows the player who places more objectives to throw the majority in a favorable place in their deployment zone.

Many tournaments, such as the Golden Throne GT last weekend, have ruled that Objectives are instead placed;

1. Terrain
2. Objectives
3. Roll for side

My worry is that with some of the missions being slightly unbalanced the fact that one side can easily get a camped objective advantage could cause some balance issues.

The objectives will be placed before rolling to see which table edge your on. As stated it could create quite an advantage whereas placing them before rolling for sides makes you place the objectives more neutrally. Sorry for the delay on the response. If you have any further questions feel free to ask.

A little over a month left I am stoked.
