Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

The issue comes when you take casualities and start getting guys bailing out.

This can result in the commander getting marooned from the rest of the platoon.

Frankly I think they should drop the idea of tank commanders anyway. Tankers often had to operate on their own without support. They didn't become helpless when their commander got taken out, they would soldier on.

I think they should change to to where tanks are bought as a platoon but each tank operates as a seperate unit for all purposes except platoon count. They deploy together and count as a platoon for morale as normal, but once the battle starts they can move independently.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Depends on the size of game you wish to play, but for larger battalion/brigade level games I can’t recommend Blitzkrieg Commander highly enough. Each stand is either a platoon or squad (it’s up to you which, it makes no difference to the game) The rules are rather abstract, but they are simple, flow beautifully and reflect command and control issues rather well. It’s influenced very heavily by Warmaster so you’ve played that you will know what to expect. Its scale neutral so you can play with any scale from 3mm right up to 20mm. Best of all there are no supplements, all you need is in one book. So no need to keep buying expensive hardback books and no list creep either.

If you want to play skirmish games I’m a big fan of two hour wargames ‘Nuts’ rules. Though I warn you it uses a ‘reaction’ system that’s not for everyone, especially if you are used to 40k where you have god like control over every man under your command.

A stripped down free version call ‘chain reaction’ is available as a free download from their website. That will give you a flavor of how the system works. All their games are based on these core rules.

I am a fan of 1:72 scale, due to cost and ease of painting. Plus it is easier to find where I am at. Oh, by the way, I am one of the "Old Fart" players.... LOL

Well I am Back from Historicon. Fireball forward is a really great set of rules and is compatible with Flames of war basing.
There is no "points per unit" in this game, so if you are a competition/tournament type player look elsewhere.
The rules are simple and using actual WW2 tactics will get you similar results. The suppression and opportunity fire rules are really good, they did a good job with the snipers too.
There is a some basic tutorials of how the rules work. http://fireballforward.com/videos/
