Behind you

My elder brother got attracted to it back in 2nd edition, with all the shiney units, he decided to go Dark Angels, I went orks. Then I decided to try the space marines, left the hobby for 7 years and came back to it.

My oldest brother came home from shopping once when he was like.....14? 15? Anywho, he had this cool Space Marine boxed set that had SM and a bunch of Orks in it. Looked pretty cool. Slowly got hooked, and Ive personally been playing for realz since I was 16, but started earlier then that obviously

Reading, England

My cousin collected Blood Angels and I was fascinated, looking at them whenever we went round, reading the codex. Shortly after we go into my local store but was not able to convince the parents to get me the starter set. A month or so later and opening my Christmas presents and there it was, the 40K paint set and 3rd edition starter set.

It has been around 12 years since that day and I have spent way too much of my money on way too many armies and have started to wind down and settle with what I have and spend less on the hobby.

Bruins fan till the end.

Never assume anything, it will only make an ass of you and me.

My friends initially got me interested in it in the beginning of 3rd ed. I didn't even play one game before I was hooked and buying up models. Then we talked with a history teacher at my high school, and started up a Warhammer club.

WHEREVA DA FIGHTIN IZ BEST

The dawn of war games got me hooked onto the universe (it was DC that did the trick)

When I moved I took a visit to the FLGS where the first thing I locked eyes with was the 40k wall I simply commented "Dawn of war has a game?!" and I have been wargaming with orks (usually losing) ever since then.
After a while my ork horde grew into what is now the ramshackle horde of darkness.

brainscan wrote:i think it was from initially reading Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone's "Forest of Doom", choose your own adventure style book. I kinda then moved into advanced fighting fantasy, into dungeons and dragons and i eventually needed some figs for the game to move around on the large white board. From that i eventually started to get bitten by the collecting, painting mini bug!!! from there it was citadel minatures and onwards!!!!

Actually I always assumed it was Dragons of Autumn Twilight, but now you've both got me thinking, and yeah it was Fighting Fantasy books for me as well. From the School Library intially, then I got a few of my own. Forest of Doom was an epiphany moment for me regarding fantasy. I don't know what it was about that particular Fighting Fantasy book, but it seemed to draw you into the adventure more than the others. Maybe because it advised you to (and I did) create a map to retrace your movements, but regardless, it was one hell of a book. Probably talking about 85-86.

After that I got Dragons of Autumn Twilight game Heroes of the Lance in 88, which came with a free copy of the novel. After that I found GW the same year thanks to a mate in school having a White Dwarf, got Blood Bowl and Space Hulk, then Space Marine. Before picking up Rogue Trader and then Warhammer Fantasy Battles 3rd edition. The rest is pretty much history.

Oh and hell, yeah Lone Wolf, only had two of them, one was a Ice setting I think with a green monster on the front on the cover. Didn't like them as much as Fighting Fantasy though.
