I switched out the sergeant and one regular marine, but the rest all are AoBR minis.

Then a couple are used as paint tests and extra missile devs.

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

Frankly, to my eyes, no matter how much you spin the torso, head, and what arms are glued on, it all looks like the same bloody marine have been seeing for years and years. With very few exceptions.

Marine kits had NEVER been very expressive.
But I digress...
If one despises the AoBR kits, that's fine. It's an opinion, and we've all got one of those.

Lucky for me I play Orks. You can't beat the AoBR Orks for filling up the ranks of 100+ boyz you need. At just under a dollar a model, it's the best deal in the game.

I wouln't really mind if I'm playing Orks and all my boyz are AoBR.

At which point, you just paint up a bunch of shootas and glue them on to their backs. WYSIWYG!

The only difference I've found between the AOBR marines and normal ones, is with the Terminators - there is often some soft molding around the knees\elbows\pads and stuff which needs to be trimmed.

That being said for regular tacs and terms, there is no reason not to buy the AOBR ones. They're not as dynamic but they also fit very nicely into foam since they are all posed more or less the same!

Shoota Boys don't have sluggas and choppas. So not WYSIWYG.

‘What You See Is What You Get’
Character models in particular tend to have a lot
of options as to what weapons and wargear they
can use – given in the army list of their Codex.
The rule is that such equipment must be visually
represented on the model so your opponents can
clearly see what they are facing
. This concept is
often referred to as WYSIWYG, which stands for
‘what you see is what you get’.

Since the rule is in bold I think its fairly clear that it speaks on what MUST be on the model to be WYSIWYG. As opposed to any rule, which isn't ever stated, that you CAN'T have additional gear on the model that you DON'T have.

They seem fine to me and are both cheap and very easy to get ahold of.

I never understood GW, if they want a static mono posed mini for AOBR, couldn't they have chosen a more commonly used pose? Like firing at a direction they are facing and not leaning in odd angles?

The rule you just quoted is talking about options on character models.

WYSIWYG in actual practice has never been about the rules. It is a gaming convention intended to make the game easier to play, through having the models accurately represent what they are supposed to be.

That works both ways. The equipment a model has should be accurately represented on the model. Any equipment they don't have shouldn't be. Giving a shoota boy a slugga and choppa is no less not WYSIWYG than leaving off the shoota would be.

Not without making the head a separate part, no.

I have the AoBR Terminators and thought I'd add some weapons to them, but the bits I got (from the Terminator kit, I suppose) have much smaller shoulder pads.

Are the AoBR Termie shoulder pads larger than the regular ones, or am I missing something?

Do you have actual shoulder pads for the replacement arms? They don't have them on to begin with, they're a separate part.

So is toilet paper. Not exactly a reason to buy them.

Your opinion is particularly well informed.

Ebay is full of the AoBR tacs because nobody likes them, and has absolutely nothing to do with people buying the starter set to get their hands on the bargain priced dreads, terminators, nobz, or deffkoptas.

I bought a couple black reach sets and the battalions for the spazz marines and to me they look very similar, the shoulders are a bit wonky on the black reach guys, but once painted my guys look very similar. To be quite honest, I don't get the fuss, the space marines are bloody ugly and all look the same to me, and I even have some 1st edition metal ones to compare them to and they're all just clones to me. The only reason I bought the army is that its the only 40k army GW actually updates and makes any effort towards. So for the original poster they're not that different at all.

EBay is full of AoBR, dreads nobs and deffkoptas as well as tacs. Bargain priced ? Take into account the quality and the bargain pales somewhat.
