Al-Jazeera's front page, as far as style goes, makes me think of The Economist (if it was a Middle East Politics focused magazine).
As far as substance goes, I dunno how reliable its English page is, but it does at least seem to be more substance-oriented than the pointless drivel on fox, cnn, cbs, msnbc, etc.

I read an article about it in the Telegraph, it didn't sound like a big deal to me. They are allowing some to occur with increased safety measures, its common all over, who gives a gak?
Drinking water well owners. Farmers. People who like their buildings intact.
A 4.0 temblor might not sound like much, but it's hard to get much work done when the desk is dancing across the floor. And what is, per se, the safety precaution that prevents the shifting mass from causing an earthquake. The telegraph was vague on that point.
By the way, if you, or even your local government is, opposed to it, they can't, because it's illegal to zone against it. Also, expect your town meeting to be visited by former military psychological ops experts in an attempt to smooth things over and the corporations to be following the US Army counter insurgency manual. (And not just the nice parts about PR).

Everyone in London is dying of thirst and buildings full of poor people are collapsing everywhere?
Pretty likely, actually, considering that each well uses up to 100,000 gallons of the following:
Benzene (causes cancer, bone marrow failure), lead (damages the nervous system and causes brain disorders), ethylene glycol (antifreeze, causes death), methanol (highly toxic), boric acid (kidney damage, death), 2-butoxyethanol (causes hemolysis).
Drink up.
Oh, and if England's laws are anything like the US laws on it, relax, if you're dying of being poisoned by the chemicals they add to the groundwater, your physician will be forbidden by law from telling you what's killing you.

I'm pretty split on it, the jpeg artifacting is consistent, but there are areas that look like they could of been clone stamped before recreating artifacts. The actual picture content doesn't look shopped and there's no inconsistent lighting or liquefy deformation in there. I kinda think it's real. That's also a specific species of wild cat, which it has in it's favor.

Of course, since the earthquakes in Blackpool were a 1.5, and a 2.3 respectively...

So we're now talking about dying from chemical contamination. Interesting how that's not relevant to dying of thirst or building collapse.

Our cat is rather large, but he still has growing to do based on the length of his legs. Our last cat was very sedate and leisurely, this one sprints around the house for at least an hour every 4. In retrospect I'd rather have gotten a semi lazy mainecoon.

My wiener dogs have informed me that your cat plays with your stuff when you're not home and says bad things about you behind your back. They say there is hope however. If you get a large doberman or a pack of wiener dogs it will counteract the evil cat's influence. They say dogs love you unconditionally. Not like cats, who are evil.

My dog died last year :(. Linda and I are waiting on getting a new dog because I want a Dane and we want to be in a better place before bringing in a new animal.

I would also have to walk behind a dog and scoop up its crap by hand. It would also require me to train the dog not to crap in the house.
My cat, on the other hand, has crapped in her litterbox since she was a kitten.

And the one that hit Youngstown, OH (not a location known for it's regular seismic activity) was a 4.0. There have been a few as high as five, but the four was the highest they could directly prove was caused by it.

Dogma, somehow, I doubt you'd pass a survival course, for some reason....
One, even a minor quake can cause significant structural damage. Maybe not an instant collapse, but enough the building has to be demoed.
Two: If all you have is bad water, yes, you will die of dehydration (or whatever is in the water). It you want an example of that, I recommend you cast your eyes on what happens when you are lost at sea.
