I do often ignore tangential, irrelevant things which have little to do with what I'm talking about.

Yeah, because we all know that we have enough coal for the next few Billion years! Oh wait that's Solar Power!

"The Imperium is nothing if not willing to go to any lengths necessary. So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. Now it is more accurate.

It was the first story that came up on Google, there were others, but that was the first. Also, I was specifically looking for a story from 2008, since American news outlets tend to have more stories on American politics, its often easier to find older stories from foreign news outlets.

If you like, I could probably dig up one of the many stories from US environmentalist websites that were critical of Obama for endorsing clean coal.

Fair enough. It wasn't a critique just an enquiry. I was wondering if you considered the mainstream US press too partisan this close to an election to give a concise outlook.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Major, issue based stories tend to be fairly even regarding partisanship, regardless of when they're run. As you get closer to an election what you really see is an upswing in the number of "character" (for want of a better word) pieces, like the recent story on Romney bullying some kid in high school, or Obama's drug use and his connection to Ayers or, going back to 2008, speculation regarding McCain and PTSD.

This cycle should be interesting, as both candidates have issues with significant segments of their respective bases (environmentalists for Obama, religious conservatives for Romney), so criticism is likely to come from some unexpected corners.

The problem is that no matter what you think on Solar being to expensive were not going to have enough coal to continue this trend of use for the next 2-3 decades.

The sun will run out in 7 Billion years, so, I guess it's not long lasting either right?

Only according to the voices in your head.

If it wasn't for Gov't subsidies solar would be even less viable. You show me a building with solar panels and I'll show you someone who sucked down subsidies in the form of either direct cash and/or some tax break.

You realize that all energy production in the US is subsidized, right?

Note that ~3 USD per kWh figure for coal power before social costs. Now, I don't know what you pay per kWh on your electrical bill, but I know its not 3 USD per kWh; in fact its probably more like 12-15 cents.
