Wow, nice to see so much chatter about the local KC stores.
Tabletop is my regular store and has been for quite awhile now. I don't see the GW store having any negative effect on it. As mentioned, maybe it will get people into the hobby, then they can graduate up to a proper hobby shop.

for those that haven't seen the stores facebook page looks like they will have one maybe two tables. Their focus is going to be getting new people into the games.

While a GW store in KC might be interesting, I'll still go to Tabletop mainly because then I can also get in a game of Warmachine if the opportunity comes up. I'm also very much into Dust Warfare, and I'm pretty sure the employees at the GW store would take a dim view of me lugging some other company's game to play, especially one written by a former GW game developer. Plus if I brought in my Dark Eldar army, which is mostly OOP stuff including venoms made from heavily converted old plastic raiders, their heads would explode.

You really haven't been to a GW store, have you?
GW doesn't "give away" anything. They allow you to purchase the swag.
This isn't true. Our local GW in Washington had a birthday party last year and had a few different events, no entry fee. where the winners got miniatures. I didn't get one..and they were random metal ones...but still, people got free stuff. Be positive about GW and the hobby...

I stopped by the store this past weekend just so I knew where it was. I have to say it is going to be crowded with 15-20 people in there at once. Any more that that and I imagine you start feeling like sardines... Three tables appeared to have been set up.

Well, I just got back from my adventure in the wilds of Kansas City, Missouri, my first visit to that particular part of town in perhaps five years. The new GW store is small, but it seems to have everything, including its very own genuine British person working the register. Of course, this is no guarantee of success, after all Battlezone in Olathe also had their own Brit, and look what happened to them. it may attract new people to the hobby, but it's no serious competition to any established stores in the KC area.

It's in a bad neighborhood and a horrible location. I for one will not stop by because it is not the safest place to be once the sun goes down.

Having gone to the "grand" opening I'll give a few first impressions.
Walking in the door I thought to myself "Wow, this place is small and sterile." All the employes were wearing polos w/ slacks in this bedroom sized store next to two gaming tables, that if they were being played would have made shopping impossible thanks to the mere size. I asked the greeter if they were having any specials or giveaways to go along with the opening, to my dismay he replied "customers spending over X dollars would receive a GW pin."
I can't imagine why anyone would willingly shop their over any of the other local shops, why would I want to have a bunch of sales men hound me so I could spend 10% more on the same product?

Yep, that's probably the consensus. And I never go to that part of town for anything anyway. Tabletop has nothing to worry about.

It's just a good place to get "must have now" items when Joe, Phil, and the guys at The Basement are sold out.
Though personally, I would probably be more willing to order it through the stores I like or just order GW direct only items via their web store. Why travel out of my way to the part of town where the GW store is located?

Decided to skip the grand opening (90 something degree weather+small store=funky smells) and hit up the shooting range instead. More than any of the other things GW has done in the last year, putting the KC store where they did is probably the biggest indication to me that they're just trolling themselves. While the Blue Ridge area isn't quite as bad as it used to be, it's still a pretty bad area that most people I've talked to wouldn't want to be at after dark. I kind of feel like GW really missed the boat on their retail endeavor. Kansas City isn't wanting for places to play, and shop for GW products. And I know that both 31st Century on the KS side, and Pulp Fiction on the MO side will order anything you want that is an ATO item for you with their normal order. If it pushes more gamers into those other stores, great, but what I feel it's accomplishment is going to be is another lesson not taken to heart at HQ in how much GW fails to think things through, and the store will close at the end of it's lease.

Man, people at the grand opening got a poster or a pin after they spent a certain amount of money, I was given money for going!
Ok, ok, he ran my card wrong and refunded me the cost of a battleforce rather than charging me the cost of it, but hey, its a freebie, right?
(note: he called me five minutes after I left the shop and explained. I'm going in and sorting this out in the morning)
