I think with that one though the turret is supposed to be smack in the middle of the pred rather than slightly to the rear. Im not sure why anyone would put it the other way round TBH, it would look strange.

As per the assembly instructions, it's one way around for the Predator (which uses the side with the turret ring), and the other way around and flipped over for the Razorback.

I have an entire army in a WWII panzer like army motif. My turrents are all in the front in all of my vehicles. I have never been turned away from any tournament that I have entered. It is a themed army with its Advantages and Disadvantages. In my case I have a higher silhouette which means a harder chance for cover bonus is my disadvantage.
I'm still scratch building this army and I am leaning in making my Whirl winds into this as this should not be too hard to do.

The difference between you and myself is intent.
I had an idea to build a pre-heresy army in a WWII theme, using rogue trader, 2nd Ed models and scratch built turrents out of historical model parts to make it work. into a themed army. I am not the alone as others have done the same before me in this game. I could care less about winning a game or tournament as the intent is to have fun and to show off my modeling skills in a simple but efficient way.
You on the other hand have made your intent known that you moved those turrents to gain an advantage, and if you are using GW turrents then yes you are modeling for advantage.
Just like the "crouching tiger, hidden wraithlord" model, which is also a Modeling for Advantage piece.

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

I've done this on my Razorbacks. I like the look of the vent/doors in the back and thought it fit with the model. There's no rule or instructions that says it had to be done either way. The hatch is made it fit on either way and IMO it's up to the player. At most it gives you an extra 1/2-3/4 of an inch.
I've also put a turret MM on my LRC, but I mounted it in the rearmost hole so as to not look like I was modeling for advantage.

As Insaniak pointed out, the Razorback assembly instructions disagree. They show it going in the rear placement.

I concur that it's not a big deal, but I don't do it on mine.

1 whole inch off a battle cannons range? How could you possibly hit anything anymore!

Rofl!
This whole thread is humorous. Mine are up front because it looks stupid in the rear and mechanically wouldn't work with the rear door. I use TL las and if anyone bitched I'd gladly measure 47 inches while laughing to myself at how silly my opponent was. now I see more of an argument coming from BA players who pintle mount their TL plasma on the front hatch. So I think you really have to examine it by case and not refer to the instructions which by insaniaks reasoning don't tell me how to mount TL assault canon so gluing it to the extreme front of the model would be fair play.
